Yeah, I hate those things. Stupid expensive ram!

Okay, that makes sense then. It has been so long I have forgotten about that!

Update to the 5,1 firmware BEFORE you do the processors also the 4,1 processors are lidless so you need to have them de-lidded or get spacers and thermal pads and be very careful if you go the spacer route because you can bend the pins and the processor board is ~$700 used.

Another thought here (Maybe Xeb and Xylene can speak to this too). If you go NonECC memory route, will the OP run into issues with the AppleTyMCEDrive.kext? In my H***intosh, I used the MacPro definition and had to delete kext to make it work. Not sure if this would be an issue for a real Mac Pro or not but thought I would throw it out there.

That's the first I've heard of that in a real Mac Pro but most of the guys running non-ECC are also running i7's and not Xeons.

I would try and see if it has any issues. If it doesn't. great.

Once I am able to sell a few items I will be getting the memory and processors but may be a few months... mother in law just passed away suddenly not long ago and we are still paying off the funeral & flights home...

Ok so now another question... What is the best Graphics card i can get into this thing with out the need for an external PSU....
been looking at a Radeon HD 7950 as they are inexpensive but would it be a big enough upgrade for me? i am using a GTX 650 ti.... and a GT120.....
or should i try and get a 780, Titan or 960 - 980...

I only run one monitor, use some photoshop for home photo editing... and play Guild Wars II thats about it...

thanks again!

Titan may not work, 960 may not work either. 780 confirmed to work fine. 970 and 980 needs Nvidia web drivers. 650 Ti I believe confirmed works. Although I do believe some cards require a mod to their bios.

The 960 works with web drivers. Most modern NV cards work depending on the os used the same applies to AMD but without efi you get no boot screen.
