$200ish-300 US best camera IYHO

First of, even if you have it, don't say a Canon SX110lS because many have reported an issue with them that may spark a massive recall/class action law suit. It seems like a great buy but my research turned up a lense error issue so I plan to avoid that unit.

Since I still can find my camera, I'm looking and researching units in the low $200 to about $300 range.

Quality and ease of function etc...

Thanks

Panasonic DMC-FZ28; it is reviewed well, high quality shots and very easy to use by the looks of things and rivals the Canon SX10 IS, and I guess beats the the SX110 IS. The price is about £200 over here, I hope you can get it under $300.

B&H have it for $300.

The XTi is a great camera, but I wouldn't go with these "value packages," because besides the camera itself, the rest is junk. That 28-200mm lens is rather old and of low quality, and so are the other two lenses in other setup.

Where are these packages sold at? There are a lot of bait 'n' switch camera resellers out there that scam people by drawing them in with unbelievably low prices.

My advice would be to get an XTi body only and get the updated Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS. You would probably spend in the less than $500 for a setup like that.

Canon XTi body - $359

Canon EF-S18-55mm IS - $129

These are both used, but they're from B&H, who is very trusted for used gear (they have their own rating system for condition, both these are 9/10).

I think if you got one those eBay value packages you will regret it. Best to get decent gear to start if you truly want to get into a DSLR.

What happened to less than $300?

Really not possible if you want anything decent from a DSLR. That's only point I'm trying to make. It's very feasible for a point 'n' shoot however.

This is definitely a bait 'n' switch company Duke. They rip people off to the point where no one will buy from them, then they register a new domain name and start the process over. When you order the camera, they'll make you call to "confirm your order" but what they'll do is try to make you pay extra for items that are supposed to be included like the battery or carrying strap, and if you don't do that, they hang up and cancel your order. If you get your order placed, companies like these will take weeks to ship and when you get your camera, you find out that it's used or grey market.

Always check resellers at www.resellerratings.com

No problem, these kinds of companies are especially abundant in the camera market.

But for your budget, there are some good p&s cameras out there, to name a few: Panasonic TZ5, Fujifilm F100fd, Canon PowerShot SX10 IS, Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS, Canon SD880 IS

And slightly above $300 there's the Panasonic LX3 (one of the best p&s cameras out there), Canon G9, Canon G10

its really hard to find cheap slr's under $400. You can get a nikon D40x from buy.com for $420($500 at amazon)

or you could get a nikon D40 from amazon for $412 which is what i got.

dont go chasing megapixels
