24 pin Duo-Sleeving

1132 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  88EVGAFTW
I didn't like the extra bulk associated with unisleeving the 24 pin adapter so I figured I'd sleeve two wires at a time. How's it look? How can it look better??

It looks pretty nice. The only way to make it better would be to get rid of the orange/red/yellow of the power supply cables that you can see between the heatshrink and 24pin thing.
Tighten the heatshrink more, and then push it into the 24 pin connector.

It probably wont work as well because it's split between two cables, but you can try

what size sleeving/heatshrink are u using?
It's the 1/8" from Fry's with 3/16" heatshrink. I like it cuz it's not the crappy see thru kind, but the 3/16" heatshrink sucks cuz it's only like 3:1 or 4:1 at best. I think some 5/32" would be better, or I should have went and gotten some 1/8" and stretched it out a bit. I'm juts too lazy to go to Frys, especially on black Friday!

Where can I get 5:1 or 6:1 heatshrink?? That would be great!
hehe i went to frys today. i was gonna get 1/8 sleeving and 1/8 heatshrink but idk if the heatshrink was gonna go over the sleeving or not. guess ill go tmmrw?
Looks Nice! Same aesthetic appeal as individual sleeving but with half the effort!

My rule to heatshrink is go 1 size larger than the actual sleeving.
The 1/8" will need some convincing to get over the sleeving. The 3/16" fits great but doesn't hold the wire well. If you were to find the 5/32" somewhere online or a high ratio 3/16" shrink, then you'd be in business and you could tuck the heatshrink in the connector and look pimpin.
That or get heatshrink that has a better shrink ratio
Get some 3:1 instead of 2:1
Get it with glued walls for a more durable setup. It should allow you to use a little shorter bits of heatshrink too.

Yeah I'm a little ADD and probably couldn't sit and sleeve the whole thing, although I did get really good at pulling the pins and sleeving it quickly.

Maybe I should get adhesive heatshrink and use that. I'll try that on the EPS 8 pin next!

Maybe put very thin heatshrink on the individual wires before you heatshrink in pairs (so you can get black color inside the 24 pin connector), and buy a connector that's not white

I did the same to my old PSU. I uni sleeved the new one and love it
