Samsung FTW. I have a samsung and I couldn't be happier;came from a Viewsonic.
For movies I'd go with a BenQ E2400HD. The 1080 res is gonna help with screen real estate wwhen playing movies. I have the E2200HD and love it. Great response time, basically no lag, and roughly the same as the V2400 afaik. The BenQ's are also usually cheaper than Samsung.
Go for the Samsung, all of mine have never let me down

What are the price differences?

The Benq has 2ms GTG while the Samsung has 5ms response time. For games that'll mean the Benq is better eh?

Prices are close but the Samsung is higher

Well there you go. You've answered your own question.

2ms GTG means Grey to Grey which honestly doesn't matter since almost everything is color.
Well the Benq says that it has a 5ms/2ms GTG, i'm not sure why its 5 and 2?
In my own experience I have never had any problems with Samsung but price is always a deciding factor.
Yeah my Samsung says 2ms GTG/5ms
My dad has a benq and it is a nice rig. I had never heard of one until he got his. It is a really nice monitor, but that is my only experience with them. My only experience with Samsung monitors is somewhat of a nightmare, but I think I just ended up with a Friday afternoon built one that had issues. The replacement I got ended up working fine.
Usually when they say 5ms/2ms GTG, it means that the 5ms is a grey-to-white or something similar. It depends on which number the manufacturer is actually quoting, since, technically there is no set standard for measuring response time.

Personally I just like the look of the BenQ more. The Samsung blood red thing always annoyed me, especially when it's >40". I've had 2 BenQ monitors so far, and haven't yet had a problem.
We sell these at work, and so far, in the 26-46" Samsung TV's, more than half of them have been RMA'd in the last 4 months. Probably doesn't apply to monitors, as it was a software problem, but just letting you know.
We've never had a BenQ come back faulty.
The Benq isn't that bad. I have one Benq 22" and like it. If GTG is 4ms, then 4 ms:1/0.004 = 250 fps technically.
OK then BenQ it is. thanks people.

Not really. It's a common misconception. Read this, especially the section titled "Motion Blur and 120Hz LCD HDTVs"
It's for LCD TV's, yes, but it still applies.

My bad. Copied and pasted the wrong one. That's for LCD TV. But the Benq is still a good one and its price is usually cheaper.

I suppose I'll have to buy a btter VGA to drive the 24incher. My current Ultra would not suffice I suppose.

But I hate my current 21" CRT. It gives me headaches when I look at it too long.
You will regret it if you don't get a 24". They are amazing but your ultra should be ok for now as long as you don't play Crysis on ultra high.

People, it is unhelpful to simply say "get this one!" and not explain why. It makes you look like a fanboy, too.

For starters, read my FAQ on LCD terminology - you will find that anything below 15ms is useless if you know how to manage your framerates, so don't base anything upon response time when both values are that low.

I have the BenQ you linked to, and I am happy with it (though I have 1 stuck pixel). Just be aware that many people have had issues with the touch sensitive buttons not working - I had to RMA once because that was the case with mine. Also, the asymmetric support structure leads to shaking while you type if your desk isn't sturdy (my computer desk is a piece of crap).

You'd be fine with either as they have similar specifications as stated by manufacturer, but you should look for reviews that show what the actual tested static contrast ratios, brightnesses, black levels, and color gamut coverages are.

Edit: And from my personal experience, BenQ customer service is nice (I didn't RMA through them, though, I did through Buy.com). I called to inquire about the dead pixel/stuck pixel policy (which is much better than Samsung's by the way), and I got someone who is in the U.S. and a native English speaker when I called their support number. Furthermore, after the conversation was over, the guy called me back to clarify something he had said before to make sure I had the correct information - that pretty much sold me on getting the monitor (the other choices I was considering were the Samsung 2493HM and the ASUS MK241H).
