Title says all. A friend wants to trade me his used 250 GTS with one of my used 450 GTS. Both cards have 1 GB VRAM, but the 250 has GDDR3, and my 450 has GDDR5.

I think he's trying to scam you. The GTS 250 is basically a 9800 GTX+ and is definitely not as powerful as the GTS 450.

So I guess it depends on how willing you are to downgrade to the GTS 250 so that he can have the GTS 450.

For future reference, the amount of vram does not tell the whole story of performance.
For example, 2gb does not necessarily mean that it outperforms a 1gb card.

Just seems that your friend knows that and hes trying to trick you by making you think they have equal performance.
The 450 outperforms it.

In the end, you'd have one GTS 450 and one GTS 250 in your system instead of two GTS 450s in SLI.

Ask him to give you some money on top of it, and then it'll be worth it.

128 and ddr3 dx10

gts 450
192 and ddr5 dx11

the gts 450 is like the old gtx260 (192)

I forgot to add. I have 3 450 GTS's, so my SLI setup won't be hurting at all.

The 3rd 450 will go to my HTPC, to view 1080p videos and bluray, and boincing. I was just wondering which one would be best for this setup.

And even tho he's not offering money, he's offering me a couple IRL things that he cannot say no to

Then I say let him have the GTS 450!

also have to factor in the 250's larger bus width which cancels out the ddr5 advantage.
