I upgraded my current rig by adding a 2500k, new gigabyte mobo, and 4 gb crucial ddr3. The build went well. I was out of thermal paste so i put on the stock cooler until I go buy some. Right when i finished installing the bios it blue screened. I then restarted it and a little later it blue screened again. I was searching to see what it ment and somehow got distracted and did nothing for a couple hours. About 3 hours after the blue screens my computer froze. I tried to restart and it kept turning all the fans on then turn off and try again. After a little bit it started up and i got to the bios and after a little bit it froze again. Now it is repeatedly restarting again. Does anyone know what could be wrong. Honestly it is acting like a very unstable overclock but i have not overclocked it yet.

EDIT: I tried running it with one stick and it booted perfectly 3 times. Before concluding it ones a single stick I tried doing the same with the other stick and was successful. I put both back in and the issue seems to have gone away for the time being. I will post again if i have problems again later.

EDIT: After a day of my rig running great I decided to overclock it. I overclock it just a little bit to 3.6ghz. I decide to bring it down as I never recorded any stock benchmarks. Back down at stock doing the cpu test in cinebench I blue screen. Now it fails to start windows repeatedly. ARRG! WHAT COULD THIS BE. Does anyone have any idea.

I am almost positive I have everything plugged in. I will try it with a single stick now.

cool, I would definitely advise you to run memtest just to eliminate the RAM as the problem. Also im not so familiar with the gigabyte boards so im not sure if what the latest bios is, again I would advise you to flash to the latest bios but only after you have eliminated any hardware defects as a problem.

I am going to run memtest tomorrow and if that turns up ok I will just wait to see if anything else happens. I have been using it for a couple hours and even did a 3d mark test and it has been great. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Edited first post. I kinda regret being cheap not installing a new operating system.
As long as your copy of Vista isn't OEM, you should be able to reinstall it. The only time when your stuck with a OS tied to a mobo is when it's OEM.

I installed the scythe mugen 2. I put on a healthy blob of ic diamond. It lowered my idle temp a few degrees lower then the stock cooler did. I tried mem test but i got almost like a blank screen. I will post a pick later.

I just needed to update memtest to get it to work. I used it and I passed. This so I got windows to work for a bit then it blue screened with the phrase at the top "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" which I hear is many times related to ram. I decided I am going to go out and buy windows 7 as I have wanted to try it more anyways. I will also return the ram and try to get some new sticks. I will tell you how this turns out tomorrow evening. Thanks for all the help!

Other than thinking you should have pc1600 ddr3 ram, i believe that you should it running at 1.65 volts. But you might want to wait for other opinons on that before trying it. I know thw g.skill, corsair, and kingston ram all run at 1.65 though.

Great Scott!! Thank you!! Thi got me to check the gigabyte Memory compatibility list and the ram I purchased is not on there. I am not positive it is because of the voltage but either way it is still not on there. The ram I was going to buy but was talked out of buying by a microcenter worker was on there though
Thanks for the help.
