Hi, totally new to this overclocking thing. I have a 2600+ athlon xp model 10, A7V8X-X mobo, 1gb ram ([email protected] & [email protected]).

Can anybody give me some stable figures to overclock my beast? i think its currently set at standard, 11.5 @ 166.65, system @ 333mhz, 1.65v i think, although ASUS probe says its 1.69v, 500w psu

I aint got a clue what to do.

Cheers old boy.

ok.

Ive put my fsb to 172mhz with a multiplier of 12.5, increased volts from 1.65 to 1.7, its now running at 2.15ghz compared to 1.9ghz, everything is stable as a boulder.

Question is, shall i replace my stick of 512mb PC2700 ram to pc3200 to match my other pc3200 i already have?

Yes...running two different sticks of ram will cause conflicts in the end...
And only allow the faster ram to run as fast as the slower ram can run...
Pc2700+Pc3200=Pc2700+Pc2700!!!!

If you can change the multiplier it's possible to get the FSB up a little more but with only the faster ram...the slower ram will give out thus causing the crash.

My temperature is running at 53c. Does that sound ok? im running a few applications. I ran Prime95 last night, and it seemed to go to 71c and no more, and then dropped back down to about 60c when i stopped prime95.

As an overclocking virgin, how am i doing? lol. Any ideas about the best cooling, dont wanna put water cooling, dont trust water and electrics.

You really don't want your temps to go as high as 71°
!!!
Try dropping the vcore on the CPU...my 2200+ runs at 1.71v 44°c idle/51°c load....but I use my software cooler so it stays around 35/40...141 FSB
I just haven't got around to the Socket mod to unlock the multiplier (13.5) yet...my MSI Kt4v supports the other multipliers though

Do you think by replacing my stick of 2700 ram to 3200 to communicate better with the cpu might have an affect on the overall cooling aswell? Since, they will be running at better mhz.

What better cooling could i get for me PC?? more fans, better fan and heatsink. Whats the best brand?

I dunno, my brain is throbbing.

Download CPU-Z from:

http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php

Post the details regarding your chip. Is it a Barton 2600+? If it is then you will be able to overclock it quite well. If it is a Thoroughbred core then you will have heat problems with an overclock and would do well to look at a third party cooler to help the overclock.

Regarding the DRAM. Often with these boards you can mix and match and get the PC2700 to run at the PC3200 level.

Awaiting your cpu specs.

CoolerMaster makes the best CPU cooler I've used for the Athlon xp...and yes running 2 sticks of the same RAM at identical speeds will definitely help the Ram to CPU bridge....

The easiest way is to hit the printscreen button on your keyboard...then open PAINT...hit ctrl+v....then save it as a jpeg...(BMPs are too large)

If you want 2200mhz, slap a 5.6 cpu/ram diver on, set the multi to 11 and whack up the bus speed to 200
also lower the v.core to 1.65
