Updated here, OP below

I have managed a highest clock of 5.1Ghz @ 1.450vcore, but temps hit 80`c when folding.

Highest clock for these benchmarks will be 4.9Ghz, @ 1.375vcore, ddr3-1600. Temps mid 70`s.

SMP for P6074. Only multiplier and vcore changed between the runs. Minimum 6 frames per run.

BIGADV results for P6900. Minimum 5 frames per run.

2600k Power Consumption and PPD/Watt

Measurements taken are for total outlet power draw, I'm not factoring in PSU efficiency.

System Specs remain the same as above, the PSU is currently supplying power to:
MOBO, CPU, RAM
GT240
1x 7200RPM HDD
Corsair H50 block/pump
2X high speed fans

My 2600K overclocking observations to date for those interested in OC info:

2600K D2 stepping, batch L038A660
Asus P8P67
Corsair 4GB(2x2) DDR3 1600Mhz C8
Corsair H50 w/one Scythe Kaze 1900rpm
running open air bench setup, extra fan over mosfet heatsinks

Firstly, my P8P67 board shipped with bios version 0408, which isn't even listed on the ASUS site. With this bios max OC was 4560MHZ, and IIRC 1.285vcore, LLC max, all other settings stock or auto. This was achieved with lowering bclock to 97 and multi at 47. No matter how much more vcore I supplied I could not reach any higher.

I updated to bios beta version 1053, which enables CPU internal PLL overvoltage, this has so far allowed me to get all the way up to 5.1Ghz.

Many reviews and talk about SB speaks of how much better it OC's with less voltage and less heat. So far the voltage aspect has proved true, requiring 1.45 for 5.1Ghz. Temps are also great up till 4.7 but start going up exponentially afterwords.

Vcore requirements thus far, up to 4.9Ghz I'm good with 1.375v, however to boot 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 all required 1.450v, nothing less. This caused temps to rise up to 80`c under load, so I have not done any testing other then boot stable and running fah for about one minute.

Now, a brief message to everyone reading this thread:
Understandably I have been receiving quite a few PM's from people looking for help OC's their SB. Mainly questions regarding "what's safe temps, voltages, etc, etc..."

Please understand, I am more than happy to share my experiences with all of you; that's why I started this thread of course! I also have no problems responding in here or in PM if your running into troubles, but I am by no means an expert. Aside from the fact I was able to get one a little bit early, I have no advance knowledge of this architecture and its limitations, please take from my thread all the information with a grain of salt if you will, just because I ran mine at 1.4vcore and up DO NOT ASSUME that means it is safe, or recommended. Always give yourself a reality check before you change a setting, understand what the consequences could be, and ensure you are prepared to accept them if that's how it works out.

If your not comfortable with a setting you saw someone else use, DON'T DO IT! Always OC within your own tolerances, save yourself the heartache in the end.

We probably won't know how well these chips cope with extreme conditions until some unfortunate user kills theirs. That's assuming they are willing to come on and tell us about it. Many people would be way too embarrassed to be honest in that situation. For all we know I may have already pushed mine beyond limits, and have reduced its life. I accept that risk as part of my testing, and of course, if/when I do kill mine I will be happy to report to you all which nail in the coffin does it in for good.

I'll apologize if this sounds a bit harsh, it's not intended that way but I must protect myself from "You did this, and so did I and I fried my chip!"

If you are looking for overclocking advice or info, please refer to this terrific thread by Sin0822, it was a valuable resource while I was working on my OC.

Thank you everyone for all the feedback, when you know people appreciate your efforts it truly makes it all that much more worth doing

OP here:
Yep.. That's right. I mentioned in another thread that for some reason I thought SB was to be released today, Jan 6 but I was wrong, it's the 9th. That however did not stop me from calling up a few friends who work at retail shops.. Afternoon coffee break today was a spendy one. I'll apologize for the poor quality pictures, I had planned on buying a decent camera this month, but that'll have to wait now.

Thats the new bits, 2600K, Asus P8P67, Corsair 4GB Dominator 1600Mhz and a 500GB WD Black Sata 3.

Took the PSU out of my GPU rig and although SB has integrated graphics, only the Asus H67 chipset makes use of it, this being P67 I still require a discrete card, and since this is planned to be a dedicated bigadv rig, a GT240 is going in for now.

Onto unboxing, and yes I'll take more crappy pics. We should have some real world PPD numbers in a little while. I only have the stock cooler, so not sure how much I'll be pushing it just yet..

So is it the lame cooler or the tower one? Box looks pretty small to have the tower.

oooooooooo

what was your total out of pocket cost, if you don't sharing

All Canadian dollars:
P8P67 - $169.99
2600k - $359.99 - found one place at $349.99 but they wouldn't sell today
4GB DDR3 Dominator 1600C8 (2x2) $94.99
500GB WD - $53.99
Rest I had, but thats just PSU and GT240 so irrelevant..

Back to pr0n!

Unboxen mobo and CPU

Even for one of the lowest end Asus boards it looks nice. One thing I'll miss on this one is the lack of onboard power and reset buttons. I have two other Asus boards with them and it's a nice feature for running nekked like this will be for the time being.

And, Ladies and Gents, meet 1155!

Yeah jus the lame one... They haven't received any with the better cooler. They said to expect an extra $30 for it, I'm thinking aftermarket will be in order shortly anyways so no biggie.

Thats expensive for a mainstream CPU but its high end performance so not bad.

I've never done much for benchmarking before... Perhaps I will do some for the OCN greater good.. All in good time

One thing I'll point out quickly, I've never seen dimm slots like this before, only one side is hinged. Different but ok, works fine.
IMG00279-20110106-1720.jpg

All setup and ready to go me thinks.. Switch on the PSU, green light means go right? (don't think you can see it, but there is one green LED lit up in this pic)

Ok, smoke test time..

IMG00283-20110106-1732.jpg

ok.. one F1 later,

IMG00284-20110106-1733.jpg

Ahhh... BIOS with mouse support!! Too weird, I'm selling it!

Ok.. maybe not..

Could be... Any of my other Asus boards (P6T, P5Q3, M4A79T, M3N78) all use double hinged dimm slots.

Why is it times like this I can't for the life of me find my darn Win 7 disk?
