2gb + 1gb =3gb

just wondering if i can put a 2gb and a 1gb stick in my old board to get it to the max 3gb 32bit os max. as i only have 2 dimms will this work or am i stuck with 2x1gb??? cheers

3GB will work, but you might lose some RAM speed/performance over it. The mismatch may make an overclock more difficult.
i dont think dual channel would really make that much of a difference, althought for OC im not too sure either.
im not going to overclock it kust want 3gb and only have 2 dimms??????
Yes, it will work.
Try to get memory that is as similar as possible (same speed, timings and voltage).

dual channel can make a 5% performance increase. important in benchmarks, etc. real world, probably wont notice.

to the OP, yes u can do it, just do as blu said and make sure u get RAM with the same speeds and voltages! very important! the all your ram will clock down to match the slowest stick.

3GB is an odd number... ewww
