I'm about to order a new Solid State Drive(s). I just want to know would 2 Plextor 128GB in raid 0 be better and faster than 1 256GB Plextor?

I guess you forgot this is overclock.net? in the Pursuit of performance...

Raiding the SSD's will only give you an increase in things like file transfers etc.. loading actual games or running the OS will likely feel the same on one drive.

What does TRIM actually do? Is it important?

TRIM allows your OS to tell your SSD which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally, which advances garbage collection and boosts your speeds.

The RAID will be worse as it will loose TRIM, but it will be faster than a single drive (at least until the flash-cells become very fragmented). A single SSD is so fast there is no point in buying 2 identical drives for even more performance, unless you already have one and want to double up.

2 SSD's should see a good improvement in raid0 for speed. Dragosmp is correct you will lose TRIM but the garbage collection is so good now it shouldn't matter.
He wouldn't lose TRIM on his motherboard. Intel released drivers for RAID with TRIM for the ICH10R controller a year ago.

^ Yup.
And unless you have them in a RAID setup I don't see a large advantage with 2 seperate drives unless you want one as a boot drive/ one for storage.

I thought that was complete speculation and it wasn't the case at all.

Turned out that the reported the information wrong and they didnt mean raid support for trim.

So TRIM frees up space? Could I just use Defraggler (Free Space) once in a while to free unused space? Or does trim do it automatically?

TRIM does it automatically. It finds files no longer needed and wipes them, so when the drive is looking for space to write it can do that faster. And DO NOT DEFRAG A SOLID STATE DRIVE! SSD's are actually SUPPOSED to be fragmented. I think you meant Ccleaner, and while this would work, why not let a background program essentially do that for you all the time?
