2x 4890's or 1 5850...

I don't play shooter games, only racing games (GTR2, GRID, SHIFT, DIRT and patiently awaiting DIRT2). I realize DIRT2 is going to take advantage of dx11, however do you think dx11 will be THAT much of a step up from 10.1 to jump to the 5850? I currently only have the 4890, but am looking at either getting another 4890 to crossfire, or spend a little more and do a single 5850. A lot of words for a simple question I guess. What you guys think?

i'd say 1 5850, as you're not at the end of the line with that purchase... but since you have the 4890 already it's your call on what you'd do with it...

and directx 11 is that much if a step up...
Two 4890's performs better than a 5870. I haven't seen any Dirt 2 DX11 vs. DX10, but honestly, I'd say framerates are better than slightly better graphics in something that will probably be difficult to run. I imagine Dirt 2 is going to be an impressive game.

So I'd recommend the 4890. I love both of mine. However, I have a feeling quite a few people are going to disagree with me.

Also, you can get a used 4890 for half the price of a 5850. You could go trifire if you wanted!
If DX 11 is not your thing, CFX 4890 > 5850. Sure, they will run a little hotter, those 4890s but can you blame em?

HD5850.

CFX/SLI always has lower minimum FPS than single cards and minimum is what matters most.

In a few situations but not always. The 5850 still gets my vote, overclocked will tie to beat 4890 CF.

The pics I've seen show DX11 do be a LOT better than DX10. From DX9 to DX10 wasn't really that big of a change, just some lighting changes, but DX11's tesselation is amazing. 5850 or dual 5770s for sure.
Damnit guys...looks like I'll be spending $100 more than expected...haha. Oh well, everyone has to have a hobby I suppose.

Agreed,It's all about highest minimum frames and your most likely better off with a powerful single card solution that performs equally or slightly less on average to Cfire/Sli...

I think another 4890 is just as good of a choice, as it is cheaper and will be more powerful than even a 5870. But I am curious why you even want to upgrade now at all? Is dirt2 going to stressing your pc?

I guess a 5850 would be nice for dirt 2, look up some comparision screen shots and see if the difference matters to you.

Dirt 2 is just the beginning, get 5850 to futureproof yerself. I would hate to get a dx10 card today just to find out a really good game coming out soon really takes advantage of dx11. I sometimes feel that way about missing out on PhysX.
I went from a single 4890 to a 5850 and I don't regret it.

if you can get your hands on a 5850 then go for it, if not then just get a 4890 instead of letting that mobo go to waste
why get a xfire mobo if your never going to try or get xfire
Question guys.

I am running a triple monitor configuration. Right now I have a 4890 for the first two monitors and a crappy little 4350 for the 3rd. When I game at 3 x 1680 x 1050, everything slaves off the 4890 using SoftTH so I get VERY smooth framerates on COD MW2 if I leave the AA off on MP and with it at 4xx on SP.

So, if I step up to the 5850 (guess I'd sell the 4890 on eBay), can it handle these 3 monitors at once in games? I am guessing yes, but just askin. Also, would I be able to turn on AA in MP with COD MW2.
