Can somebody please give me some advice on this question?

Do i get myself 2 x Geforce 6600le's (256mb PCI-E) and run them in SLI mode or do i just get a high-end single card? When you run 2x 6600's in SLI mode, does it double the speed?

It doesn't quite double your speed, but you should see improvements of about 60-80% depending on the game. You're better off with a newer graphics card as even two 6600 series cards aren't going to be powering through the eye candy currently on the market.

Edit: Welcome to the forums; hope you stay a while.

Save your cash on those 6600's and pick up an X1900GT or GeForce 7900GS for probably about the same amount of cash

If you dont want to spend that much look at the 7600GT or the X1800GTO

you'd be much better getting a higher end card, possibly 7600GT< it would save you a lot of money. 6600 don't perform to well in 3d apps that use shader model 3.0, they utterly fail (Oblivion) So, if you put them in SLi it wouldn't make much of a difference in those games.

Thanks for the info guys. So which is better, AGP or PCI-E?? Is there a difference, and if so, what? And i've been reading alot about overclocking, unlocking of pipes, etc. - how real and valid is this?

PCI-E it has a lot more bandwidth than AGP. With certain cards you may be able to unlock extra pipes, and certain cards can overclock great. It's all possible with rivatuner and such.

ok, so now i have to decide between the 7600GS and the 7600GT, considering the GS is slightly cheaper. is the 7600GT worth the extra bit of cash, and if so, why? what's the difference between the GS and GT? and which one will i be able to OC or unlock pipes?

and the difference between the 128-bit and the 256-bit? so i take it the GT is SLI ready(provided you got a SLI mobo, right)?

I've been playing Oblivion for months now, and I've got two 6600's. Granted, I play it in 800x600 with some effects turned off, but I still get around 30fps, and it hasn't lessened the gameplay any. So there.

...but definitely get a higher-end card if you can.

eVGA 7600GT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130073
BFG 7900GS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143070
XFX 7900GS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150208
eVGA 7900GS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130056

All of these will outperform two 6600's in SLI by roughly 100-200%.

I have an eVGA 7900GS. Without any mods(to the card and to Oblivion) it plays Oblivion on default Ultra High details, 1280x1024 @ 4xAA while maintaining a decent framerate. I applied higher quality graphics mods and changed the vegitation view distance to 10x the normal, and it still ran 15-20fps.
