Hi, I know this will be a stupid question but do only particular new motherboards support the upcoming PCIe version (3.0 and are they on all the more modern chipsets (i.e. Z68, X79) or just a particular one? I can't seem to find a source with all of this type of information in one place.

Also is there any particular rule for matching the prices of CPU's and Motherboards i.e. roughly the same price for both so the motherboard doesn't hamper the CPU?

Also if anyone could suggest a good Z68 Motherboard for around 230 GBP I will be very grateful, there are so many to choose from and I can't differentiate between many of them.

If anyone could help me I will be forever indebted to you

N.B. I will be using the system for mainly gaming.

Heres a run down

but to be honest I don't think any cards right now are really bottlenecked by 2.0 from what I've heard. I could be wrong

Where do you prefer to shop in the UK ? Preferable online site i.e. the UK newegg equivalent

I saw this motherboard on Scan which looks promising:

However as I'm waiting until April to buy this stuff, I'm not sure if Ivybridge will be out by then and whether it would be better going with an Ivybridge CPU than a 2700K.
In all honesty you wont be able to push the 2700k right now if all you are doing is gaming. Prices on the 2700k will drop some I would assume.

link didnt work but I assume you linked this one and that's an awesome board and will OC awesome.

The cheaper extreme will be quite fine if you aren't going to SLI. The Inclusion of NF200 on the Extreme 7 will allow 2 slots running at x16 PCI-e

Thanks for the replies, currently I have a GTX 580 so I won't need to go SLI just yet, but I'm thinking if I get a good board now, then I could get another GTX 580 next Christmas when the prices might have dropped a little.
