Sup guys so the deal is my Birthday is Monday and I will be turning 16 on the 16th lol

but anywho I am gonna have I think about 300 dollars to get whatever and I really want to either get a ATi Radeon HD 4870 and a monitor that is between 19-22 inches or a new AMD mobo and CPU with a Radeon HD 4870 and I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas. Right now my PC has the following

Intel C2D E4500 @2.93
4 GB or OCZ pc2-6400 ddr2 ram
160GB Samsung HDD and 120 GB WD Pasport External HDD
17 inch CRT 1280x1024
15 inch HP LCD 1024x768
PNY nVidia 9800 GT 1 GB v.2 / 8800 GT basically
Antec 900
Coolermaster eXtreme power 500 watt PSU

I really want a bigger monitor for gaming but I cant help but think that a Phenom would help me more

If I get a new mobo I want to be able to get another 4870 later on for Crossfire, I was gonna get another monitor about 2 weeks ago buy my mom stalled until they went out of stock (the one I wanted at least)

EDIT as far as CPU's go they can be OEM since I can most likely re-use my ThermalTake Blu-orb II

Yeah you would need a new mobo for that phenom and I don't know if that would run you some more cash than 300 if you get something good.

I would just get a new monitor now. Your processor is fine now.

Just my opinion though.
Even though im something of an amd fanboy I say go the monitor route the cheapest 4870 1gb is the xfx I believe at just under $200 you can get a decent 19 in monitor for around $120

Definitely a new monitor and HD4870/GTX 260. That 15" isnt doing anyone any good

I would suggest a 24in monitor with that money.
I agree with the new monitor.

Trust me, a nice 20" - 22" widescreen will look worlds better than your 17" CRT. The E4500 and a 4870 will run anything you throw at it at 1680x1050, so why bother with a motherboard / processor when you'll just be limited to a measely 1280x1024? (I'm guessing that's the max res of the CRT)
lol i don't think $300 will fit that all. just get yourself a nice big lcd.

anyway if you want to go amd
get this lcd:

then this combo:

use that gpu for the meantime, then upgrade as soon as the 4870 drops to $100, probably in 2-3 months. hopefully
