So my 8800GT just isnt cutting it anymore and not sure what i should get for a replacement. I mainly place source games, with a little Fallout 3 and Bioshock when i want a single player game. I play at 1440x900 at highest settings i can. Any suggestion? Cheaper is always better.

For this resolution the 8800GT is fine IMO...I play Crysis with everything on high at 1280x1024 and it runs smooth as butter. However, if you really want an upgrade, I would go for the GTX 260 core 216. I actually may be getting one soon from a friend for building a rig for him. That card would DESTROY anything at your resolution, and it has enough VRAM to keep up with higher res in case you ever decided to upgrade your monitor.
Go for a better monitor first before getting any other card, and get a 4870 or a GTX 260 Core 216.
8800GT should be fine at that resultion. May try to OC the quad a bit. If you want to upgrade, get a stock GTX260 216 and OC it.

Might not be a bad idea. I still run a 19" monitor, but I wouldn't upgrade my graphics for this resolution (unless it was, of course, free!). A you can get a new 22" monitor from newegg for like $170-180 these days. Then you could keep the rest of the $130 bucks, save a bit more money, and then spring for a new graphics card later.

1. Monitor is coming done the road. If i wanted to i could use im 42" plasma but that would be slight over kill lol.
2. No 8800GT is not enough. It drops to like 15-20 fps in some of the really intense hordes in L4D.
260 Core 216 is the way to go.

I made the same upgrade myself 2 weeks ago, gained 2600 points in 3dmark06, all my games frames went up at least 20 for the minimum (sub crysis, more like 8 there) and my general frames has been much higher since the change. Enough to justify the price.

I stand corrected then. A 4870 1GB Edition wouldn't be a bad idea for you either, but I wouldn't get the 512MB version over a GTX260.

GTX 280 $259.99 -$20 MIR = $250

What is your 42" plasma? Most are 1024x768, so your 8800GT will do better on that then your monitor.

First link is dead. You can pretty much always OC a regular edition card to past the clocks of the overclocked edition. Don't spend more for an OC'ed edition unless its like $10.

I say get the 4870 1 gb they have them for about 250 on the egg or you could even get a 4850x2 and still do better than a gtx260

Edit: I saw a 4870 1gb for under $200
