30in IPS panel monitors

I'm looking to purchase two 2 30in IPS monitors in the next couple weeks. Please do not recommend that I purchase a TV.

Right now, I see the following as options:
LG W3000H
Dell 3008WFP ( I just missed a sale for $1150)

Is this HP monitor IPS? Some sites say that it is but I didn't see any technical documentation showing the panel type.

I'm limited to about $1200/monitor. What one would you suggest? Does anyone know if the Dell will go back onsale?

Yes, that HP LP series is an S-IPS panel.
Check out the thread at the [H] for more info if you wish, first hand reviews and such.

Personally, Dell's return policy is very nice, no questions asked sorta thing. They want the service tag and that's it. I'd go with the Dell just for peace of mind, considering the monitors are virtually just the same.

However, if you look @ Dell Outlet, there are still a few 3007WFP's going for $700, which is what a lot of people are getting right now.

Is the 3007WFP IPS?

I just looked on the outlet. Those are cheap. Unless they arn't IPS I will probably go with those.

What are the main differences between the 3007 and 3008? Is it just the display ports?
Both are S-IPS panels, and there are two main differences.
First, the 3008wfp has a scaler, meaning if you were to hook up a XBox360/PS3/etc to the monitor, the scaler would resize the resolution to native (2650x1600) instead of 720p/1080p.
Secondly, the addition of a DisplayPort and a few other ports.

If you can live with pixel mapped resolutions for other input devices, or you're just using the monitor for a PC only, go with the 3007. There's virtually no difference in the quality (different DCR, but turn DCR off anyway, since it mucks with colours anyway)

THanks. I was just reading that on [H] here: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1261177

I only plan to use this on my PC. I don't own any consoles and don't plan on it in then next few years.

The question now is, what warranty should I get.
It includes a 3yr. For $80 I can get a 5yr. Is it worth it? I usually don't buy the warranties but this one seems pretty fairly priced.

I guess the big question is, how long do you plan to use the monitor? If you plan to use it 5+ years, get the warranty. If not, don't get it.

It'll give you peace of mind, sure. It's also cheaper than any other solution that's out there also, so, if you've got the money to spend, I'd go for it.
