360 cooling

well after looking at some reviews of cooling devices for the xbox 360.Turns out there are only 2 the pelican fan stand and the nyko intercooler. Well in both reveiws they had some big problems (pelican fan stand-you have to turn of manually, nyko intercooler-56 decibels
,pelican fan stand-only can be used in upright postion, nyko intercooler-drains alot of power from the 360 and sometimes causes errors) and can anyone reccomend a good homemade cooling idea or other branded coolers i dont know about?

I'd just keep the Xbox 360 in an open air, good airflow place, do not place it in a TV Stand with the glass door shut, especially, if the back is wood, too. Your just causing the hot air to rise up, to the top of the lower compartment in the TV Stand, then, eventually, all of the air will become warm. And, I find it dumb that most of the Water Cooling Xbox Setups make you put your Xbox horizontally, when it is horizontal it has less problems.

If you are not worried about your warranty I'd just open it up, see what size fan it has, and swap it out with a faster one.

I think the only fans in the console are two case fans. They are on odd size too so replacing them won't be easy. One thing Microsoft could have done when desigining the console, was to have some kind of active cooling on the CPU. I had the Intercooler, but I took it off after reading some stories of them frying the console.
I've seen mixed reviews for this fan replacement.

It's supposedly quieter and moves a little more air.
You can also set the 360's fans to run at 12V if you don't care about the added noise. Just ground them to the case. There are tutorials out for it.
well im going to build a small shelf to cool it better and also i think im going to get the pelican fan stand but i have one question since the fan stand plugs in via usb it has constant power going to it even when the system is turned off so does that mean i have to switch it off or can i just leave it on (will anything happen?)

Well seeing as im only 13 im not too savy with the whole open up your xbox and place differnt fans in it or rewire usb plugs. So im trying to stay away from makeing my own cooler.
Well i just bought this off amazon and im going to mount it on the side of my xbox 360. Its works very well on the xbox 360 from what ive heard from customer reviews on radioshack.com. It even has a little folding stand.

only if theres one like the nyko, cuz i dont want to void my warrenty.
plugging in a usb fan from a differnt company will void your warranty??

well if so how would they ever find out?
no, i mean opening it up and replacing the stock fans, and the nyko is just too problomatic for me. i draws too much power, melts into 360 etc.
o lol im not talking about opening it up im just talking like tapeing the fan on some ventilation holes or something (thats waht other people did and it worked for them)also can someone tell if the 2 fans in the xbox 360 are sucking air in or blowing air out ?
blowing them out since the cpu doesnt have a heatsink fan.

this is the one i have also and it keeps it cool. i never had a problem with it running hot but i bought this for extra protection and it did drop the temps alot. and it has a speed dial if you want it quieter just turn it down.

Well Where did you mount on your xbox and was it blowing or sucking ???

I put the Talismoon fans in mine and it works great. Plus, if your 360 is off warranty it is worth the effort as taking apart the 360 is quite easy.
i have mine in the horizontal position and the fan is blowing in the right side vent toward the from. here is a pic of how the flow goes in the 360 but in the pic where you see the fan on the inside is the cpu and that fan was added.

i refuse to get the 360 until I see a tutorial or a product to quiet that monster down!! The replacement fans I've seen lowers it a couple of decibels... not enough... I dont wanna shell out for watercooling, but I would take a replacement case of some kind that can house a 120mm fan or 2.

did this lower temps much? So much so that you would mod the rear fans to slow down and be a little quieter? also, is there large enough space in the back behind the fans to allow for maximum air, minimum noise? otherwise I'd just cut away at the case in the fan area...
