Santa brough me a sweet new build and I'm looking for recommendations on BIOS overclocking settings.

System:
CPU: i7 3930k
MotherBoard: Asus p9x79 Deluxe
Memory: RipJaw DDR3-2133 CL-11-11-11-30
Cooling: Corsair H100 CPU closed loop water

I've been playing with the auto and manual settings and can get 4.2 on auto tunner, but can't seem to get her over 3.2g manually. My bios doesn't seem to be applying the settings I've entered 47 for core and 2133 ram. To clarify, it's not crashing or forcing a reboot to apply bios defaults. It's rebooting like normal (not even kicking the power off to apply new power up/voltage (1.4v) settings) and comes up without the new settings.

*Any recommendations/thoughts/theorys on clock and voltage settings would be much appreciated (coming from an old northbridge system so trying to knock off the cobwebs).

Thanks Sin, I've read through your guide and it has opened my eyes quite a bit. With that said, I still can't get my bios to save and post with a different CPU/DDR3 range unless I use the default Asus Overclocking Tuner. It's got me wondering what I'm missing. Here's a quick overview of the settings I've tried. Note: All items with a / means more then one selection from available options has been tested.

AI Overclocker = Auto/Manual
Turbo Ratio = Auto/By All Cores/By Per = 36-47 (these were tried at a BLCK 100)
CPU Clock Gen Filter = Auto/Enabled
Memory Fre = DDR 1600/2133
EPU Power = Enabled/Disabled

OC Tuner = On

Dram Timing Control = 11-11-11-30-2t

Digi+
CPU Load-Line Calibgration = High
CPU VCORE Boot Up Voltage = 1.4

CPU Performance Settings
CPU Ratio same as above (36-47)
Enhanced Intel Speedstep = enabled/disabled
Turbo Mode = on by default once I change CPU Ratio

*All turbo mode parameters are left on default

CPU VCORE Voltage = 1.4
CPU VCCSA Voltage 1.320
DRAM = 1.6v
CPU PPL Voltage = Auto
VTTCPU Voltage = 1.3

If there is anyone out there with this same CPU/MB combo would love to know your overclocking settings....

can you post your turbo mode settings? The ones you left on auto.

your boot up voltage doesn't really need to be anywhere that high, its not vcore.

Can you just take screnshots of your BIOS? Try pressing F12. Its much easier.

BTW clock gen reset make sure is enabled, that just makes sure you reset after you change BLCK.

BTW what is your BIOS version? Have you updated it?

BTW you will need to manually set your timings for ASUS boards when you want to OC above stock, you cannot leave them on auto. So just set them and try again.

BTW try the 1.25 divider instead of 1.00.

THis is your latest BIOS, update it: http://91.121.148.119/downloads/BIOS/P9X79-DELUXE-ASUS-0906.ROM

Enable AI Tuner
First try BLCk ratio of 1.00 and then try 1.25
Set your multiplier, but be careful to make sure that your lowering your multipliers for dram and CPU when you set 1.25x
Set clock gen filter on auto
Disable EPU power saving
Disable OC tuner
Set load line to ultra high
CPU current capability to 140%
Boot up voltage on auto
Leave speed step enabled under the advanced CPu settings just to see if it needs to be enabled with Turbo mode
Your turbo power limits: Long duration power, set to 255, the time oif power limits for long and short set auto. For current set 250A
Disable spread spectrum for CPU and PCI-E
Disable C1E, C3 state, C6 State

Set your Vcore to 1.4v. Don't mess with the memory speed yet.

What people don't understand, but i think a lot of people are seeing is that X79 is not that popular, mainly due to its price, you have to buy a $500+ CPU to even have a X79 system.

The RE4 requires you to set the timings manually so i presume you need to do the same?? By any chance did you update your bios yet? Cause i know a few initial bios does have problem with overclock not sticking... my ud3 i think is artificially hitting oc wall at 4.5 anything higher it will not work lol

Thanks again Sin and all, still no joy. Updating the bios to the 12/23/11 build was the first thing I did. I've tried divider of 1.0 & 1.25, clock settings of 36 thru 47, DDR timings of Auto/1600/1866/2133 and voltage settings of 1.3/1.4/1.5 with the same results. I then choose to save and exit . But it just reboots at 3.208g without crashing or stating that overclocking has failed please enter bios setup. I know I'm missing something simple or my MB is fragged.

As requested I've included screens below.

AI Tweaker:
530

Digi+PC:
606

Advanced Mode:
634

VCore Voltage (Spread Spectrum was also disabled)
597

Asus Bios page (this is what I see after every reboot - I'm not prompted to enter bios due to overclock failure)
450

You rock Sin! Knew it would be something simple...I've been forcing overclocks in the BIOS so long that I thought if it didn't show during post/boot-up it wasn't being applied. Post shows 3.2g, see CPU-Z 64bit screen below for Windows 7 overclock confirmation.

402

Thanks again everyone, have a very Happy New Year!

Any follow up to this OC? I am curious about this 1.3v VTT setting with nothing else being touched. Curous if it would stabalize my Offset setting or will I have to finally break down and use Manual setting instead. :/
