3rd Gen SSDs, anyone got CrystalDisk results?

I've currently got an Intel X25-M G2 160GB SSD, which I'm quite happy with. I'm waiting patiently for a significant advancement in SSDs so I can upgrade. Not sure if 3rd Gen SSDs (Crucial C400, Vertex 3, Intel 510, Corsair P3) are such a massive increase.

I'm seeing the headline sequential read/write numbers and being wowed by them of course (the Corsair P3 is 480MB/s read, 320MB/s write for the 256GB drive for example). I do large sequential reads and writes (26GB files) a couple of times a day. It would be nice for one to take only 2 minutes instead of 7 or 8, but if it's only once or twice a day, I'm not really getting a lot for my big-bucks investment.

I've learned here that the 4K random reads and writes are much more important for everyday use. I can't seem to get those numbers for the 3G drives. I've heard in various threads that several of the above-mentioned 3G drives are at best, only a small improvement, and at worse, actually slower than the Sata 300 SSD I already have. Considering that they're Sata 600 drives, that's just unacceptable.

Maybe I'll have to stick with the Intel I've got for a year or so. Thoughts ? Here's the CrystalDisk test I just made (and I get 7.2 for disk on the Windows experience index). I don't know if I have AHCI enabled. I didn't learn until today that I should have done that before installing Windows 7. Too late now, I'm not doing it again.

I have the same drive. Your drive's performance should be right (mine is slightly higher because it was cherry picked for reviews back in the day). I wouldn't worry about upgrade to a new SSD as you're getting good performance and it'd seem moot.

Good to see mine's performing within the range it should be then

Do you have trim enabled? I just downloaded the v1.7 firmware (which I understand is necessary for trim). I'm hoping that installing that, a quick reboot, and Win 7 will automatically "do it's trim thing".

I read that the black ones don't work with trim. Luckily mine's a silver one.

Yup, I flashed it to the 1.7 firmware awhile back. Trim is enabled.

LMK if that boosts the performance any.

Done, and no real difference. A couple of them went up by 1 or 2, a couple of them down by 1 or 2 but I imagine each time you run a test you'd get that kind of variation anyway.

I'm definitely in trim mode (I think), when testing if my SSD shows up as a possible scheduled defrag, it doesn't, only my non-SSD hard drive was available. I have "3" for superfetch and prefetch in the registry, but I think I should leave them alone. Don't play with stuff if you don't know what it's doing

I'll probably upgrade when the SSDs are limited by SATA 600, which should be the next gen (4) or maybe there'll be a 3.5 gen that does it.
