Update (Aug 5th): I will be wrapping this thread up by tomorrow, 8:00PM PST.

NOTE: it is because of Mmansueto's kindness that I am giving these away. i am just "Paying it forward!"

I went ahead and ordered some 3x1Gb DDR3 1333 just because they were so cheap, and I wanted to see how they OCed. So I got them in yesterday and OCed them to 1600 Cas9 at 1.55v vdimm. Now that I've had my fun, I want to give this kit so someone who is planning to do an i7 or AMD DDR3 build.

My goal is to make the upgrade a little less painful, and hopefully help someone out with their new i7/AM3 build.

So the rule is simple, post your i7/AM3 build and you will be entered in to win this kit. I will anounce the winner next Thursday night. And please, only post if you are actually going to use this ram. Note these are Corsair kits. You can see more info on the CPU-Z SS.

here is some info on the ram (note these modules OCed to 1611 were not even warm to the touch.. they run very cool):

I got an error 1/2 into memtest so I set the timings to DDR3 1611 at 9-9-9-24 1T with 1.65v vdimm and ran the test again. The kit past memtest without any errors (will add pics later). So they will run 1600 Cas9 at default voltage.

Update: I just tried running them at 1800 at Cas9 and Cas10 and got errors in memtest. So I went back to 1611 and tried 1.50v vdimm. It posted but hung up on memtest. So I bumped the vdimm to 1.55v at 1611 Cas9 and have passes memtest. So these will run at lower voltage.

I am trying to keep this to people planning a build that dont already have ram, to help offset the cost of upgrading. It is nothing personal, but you already have 6Gb, so the ram wouldnt really be helping you out.

Im DEFINETLY getting rid of my sig rig and replacing it with phenom II. Build will probably be done begining of 2010.

Components:

Phenom II x4 810
MSI/ASUS 790gx motherboard
2gb DDR3 (4gb If I win this) EDIT: cant use 3rd DIMM so 2gb instead of 3gb and 4gb instead of 6gb
Haf 932/ Cm storm scout
some cheapo 600w PSU
DVD writer ( blu ray if price drops)
ATI radeon 4870 512mb
1tb Western Digital HDD (probably 2 in RAID0 cuz prices r goin down)

EDIT: Crap. Forgot that AMD boards do dual channel not triple channel. Ill just use two of the dimms. Problem solved.

And this is exactly why I wanted to offer this freebie, so that people can make their upgrade path easier on the pocket, allow an upgrade of another component, like their video card or CPU, or add a nice sound card.
