I ran into problems initially. I bought two new drives, and took my old drive put them in a RAID so 3x750GB. Then I couldn't get windows to install, removed the old drive resetup the RAID with only 2 and it installed perfectly. So I am using the WD utility at the moment to write 0s to all 3 drives.

I was thinking about short stroking, all I need to do is set the RAID Array to a smaller capacity right? Would 1500GB be low enough for all 3?

Here are my results in Windows 7 with 2 drives

2 X 750GB Western Digital Black

To get the best out of "Short Stroke"20%- 25% seems best, so about 500GB would be good

It doesn't appear I can change the RAID size once it has been configured. Can I use some software to alter the size to test different drive sizes?

You have to do it when you build the Raid Array!
When you choose how big to make the Array
