Hate to make 2 build request threads in two days, but this one is for my friend who is back from college.
We need $400 bare bones. No OS, monitor, CD drive or peripherals.

The only thing I would change is make that a AM3 board with DDR3 RAM... might as well since it's gonna be same cost. Other than that it's pretty much what I'd get since there's not much leeway with $400. This is what I came up with:

I would also recommend a Phenom II 555.. they are all having suprisingly positive unlock percentages, and I would bet willing to be you'd end up with a quad core with L3 if you went that route..

i will add a few bucks. downgrade to
ATI 4770
and upgrade to AMD 555.
unlock it to quad core.
need probably a few bucks more..roughly around $40 more. but its worth for $ vs performances
