4670 on a 300w 15A psu?

my friend wants me to upgrade his pc, which currently is a athalon 2400+, 512mb ram, and integrated graphics, all running off a 300w psu with 15A @ 12V. Im replacing everything except the case, dvd burner, and (hopefully) psu. Would a 4670 run on this? the specs will be: E6600 @ stock (65w), 2x2gb ram, 2 HDDs, 1 dvd burner, a P43 mobo. I THINK itll work since the 4670 uses so little power and will run on anything. the 4670 and e6600 together should be like ~100w right? I would like to keep the psu since hes on a really tight budget. And based on all I read it should be fine. Since ive seen people run like 3650s on PSUs like that and i dont think the card really uses any more power than that. (i have 2 friends running 8800GTs on 305-350 PSUs, but with way more amps @ +12V, im sure that wont work on this!)
So is it OK?!

Yes it should be fine, and the 4670 doesn't require a +12v connection PCIe.
Although, as cheap as PSUs are he'd be better of getting a better PSU that he can easily upgrade his card to something else later... (like a 4830 for only $85 after MIR)

Well his budget is REALLY tight and he WONT be upgrading, hes been using 7 year old integrated intel graphics. He wont even be gaming much, he wants to try L4D though. I was just going to get him something like a 3450, but its just $40 more to have something that can game, so he said it sounded like a good idea. Should i get the saphire with the refference cooler of the HIS with the nice ICQ4 dual slot cooler? He wont be overclocking and itll be in a small case (but regular ATX mobo). Also would the 1GB models for $10 more be worth it AT ALL? He has a crt, im not sure the resolution, but obviously not super high.

I wouldn't get the 1gb model. $10 is not much money at all but I doubt there would be any performance gain from it so not worth it in my opinion.

or this

I think this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131146
would be fine (especially for the price after MIR)
and look - for $30 has a pci-e: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817339012
I'm cheap and have this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148033
it's a little noisy on startup but works fine for only $15
EDIT: I agree do not get 1gb NO advantage
EDIT2: there's no need to get the ICEq turbo - you can OC yourself for free

hmmmm maybe, if i did that i would just go for a 4830 as they are ~10 more. Would it really be worth it for a tight budget? And dont count MIRs since its for someone else. And you own the HIS 4670 i linked, would u reccomend it over a refference hsf 4670, not based on clocks, since it cools better than the saphire one? That apevia psu, i had it and my 8800gt blew it, so Theres no way id buy it.

the 4830 has twice the performance as a 4670 especially when OCd (compares to 4850), BUT requires PSU with PCI-e plugs (and burns more electricity even at idle)
The 4670 is a fine card, but if I was buying right now, I'd spend the few extra bucks and get a 4830.
i know for a fact its not 2x as powerful. its slightly under 9600gt performance vs 9800gt performance itll be like a 20-30% gain.

True: probably like 25% at stock and 40% when OCd (both)
The main problem with the 4670 isn't the core, it's the 128 bandwidth vs 256 in 48xx (and 2x shaders) - and me not having PCI-e connector (and a cheapo PSU)

EDIT: review here: http://www.****************/reviews....nge_round-up/8

Alright well he wont be overclocking so im not sure if a 25% gain is worth the extra cost for the card and power supply for just minor gaming and on a tight budget.

4670 max draw is 60w. It usually takes 55w at full load so stock cpu and 4670 are around 110/120w. 15A can be rated and actual wattage may be less than rated number.

well 15A would still handle that, heck even at 110w thats still about the same as my stock b3 q6600 and no gpu so it should be fine.

It is good for a budget and sips the power...
I figured the card would last me until I go i7 in 16 months. - I don't game that much either, but I do have and play crysis on medium 1680x1050.

In most cases, 4670 use less than 55w so it should be fine.

I use a 4670 and on L4D I get 60 fps all max detail 1280x1024 Paired with a OC'ed e5200 @ 3.875. I don't get any hicups. I just overclocked my card eariler today but that 60 fps is before the overclock. Had to up it to hit 10k on 3dmark06.

Edit: Just thought I would add, IMO that is plenty.
how is the quality of those $20-$30 HEC power supplies (485-485w)? If they are good, that and a 4830 would be affordable, but if they are crap, im not gonna risk it.

I think most people on this site would not recommend getting the cheapo PSUs - They say if it goes it could take out other components. Mines cheap and if I had the cash I'd get another, but his current one (300w) is probably a cheapie too...

so u think the cheap $30 psus wouldnt run a 4830 anyways? If so its not worth it. And his current psu has ran his PC for 7 years so far with no problems so i know its at least decent.

I think the $30 would run a 4830, but maybe not for 7 years and might be more likely to take other stuff out if it goes. The PSU is probably the first upgrade I plan on buying when I go i7 - something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

EDIT: just noticed this item for $20(after MIR) - 500w has PCIe - I have this brand and it seems ok. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148027
