My friend has a choice between a 4400 + 7800GTX, and a 4800 + 7800GT. Which should he get? I should mention the cpu is going to be liquid cooled, and the video card are going to have non-stock fans, so it should be fairly easy to OC both.

IMO 4400+ with a GTX. The only difference on the CPU is the multi so just use better RAM to OC it. The graphics card is totally different, and an OC'd GTX owns!

If he wasn't going to OC, then I'd go 4800 & GT as even the GT will be CPU limited in many games, but if he's going to OC (which it sounds like he is) then 4400 & GTX.

4400 & GTX will probabally yield better gaming performance, but 4800 GT would be better for every day type tasks. But this is only true at stock speeds...
