4830 or 4670 or 3870(GDDR4)?

I'm building a budget system (under $800 after taxes and shipping) for a 13 year old kid. Stumped on which video card to get. Read up another thread about 4670 vs 3870 and most people suggested the 3870 with it's 256-bit bus and GDDR4 over the 4670. I'm all ears.

4670 because it'll have driver support for longer, and because I'm decently sure it runs cooler.

That 256-bit bus won't be necessary on a lower-end card such as that 4670 anyhow.

Edit: And it uses less power, so you don't have to shell out on a power supply (especially if you want CF options in the future).
4830 beats the other 2

2nd choice would be the 4670 (For Avivo decoder and stuff)
4670 for media and light gaming, 4830 for media and light gaming( with a small bit of eye candy)

agreed.

4830 beats both. 4830 is in the same category as a 9800gt, but IIRC it actually comes close to a 4850.

Even though the 3870 might be ever-so-slightly better than the 4670 in some benchmarks I'd assume it'd handle AA and HD content better, in addition to probably being supported longer(as low strife mentioned).

I'd get the HD4830 over the other two (or wait for a really good deal on a HD4850). Newegg has a HD4830 for $95 shipped after discounts.
I say you watch the Newegg open box deals and you can snag a 4850 for $109 to $139.

One there now for $112
Thanks guys, I'm going to go with the 4830. Anything close to the $100 range is close enough.
4670<3870<4830. 4830 is the best there and beat 8800GT in some games and good AA performance.

Performance wise, yes a little bit. But the 4670 consumes much less power than the 3870.

Power consumption isn't an issue unless the kid games 24/7 which I highly doubt, unless he's into WoW.

I'm getting an E5200 and 4830 at a 500 dollar budget. How are you not able to afford a 4850/70?
Get the 4830..its a surprisingly powerful card..2 of them can beat a 280GTX..so 1 is pretty dam good.

First of all he doesn't really need it. Second, the build doesn't include monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers.
