4850 x2 2gig troubles

First thing I bought this card open box I expected to have some problems, but it worked fine when i installed it.

Upon testing it and reinstalling my OS etc I now have a problem. It's running on one GPU but ATI CCC shows two, with crossfire enabled. \\Both GPUs are underclocked for some reason @ 500 mhz core 750 Mhz mem, I can't change the clocks at all in ATI overdrive.

Any help would be great, I'm pretty lost right now.

If it doesn't pan out I have started contact with Sapphire for the RMA, and Also contacted newegg.

Whitch verion of CCC do you have?

To unlock the ATI Overdrive in CCC you have to click the key button.. then you should be able to change the clocks manually.

I'd try reinstalling the drivers... had some few issues with the CCC and drivers myself the first time I installed them.. reinstalled them and everything worked nicely.. if the version you're using is one of the newest once you might want to try 8.11 or 8.12

I've done several reinstalls and formats(3+ with the card)

It turns out according to some searches I just made with the google, that sapphire underclocks the card @ desktop to save power Quote from sapphire's forum.

"ATI cards from X1800 and above ( the high-end cards ) use Dynamic Clock Changing or PowerPlay as it's now known .. it's a power saving feature of the card to save energy .. a VGA card doesn't need to run @ 625Mhz to render a 2D desktop ..

There's NOTHING wrong with your cards at all in that respect."

And me being the smart guy, someone on here recommended i run furmark in window mode, and I just thought "O wait Crossfire doesn't work in window mode does it?" So that solves both of my weird issues with this card so far.

The clock speeds and memory speeds vary with demand on the card. At idle, it underclocks itself to 500 gpu / 750 mem. Underload it ramps back up to stock values of 625 gpu / 933 mem.

heh mine on desktop are @ 34C idle with 100% fan speed. My room is freezing with all 10 fans running >_<

man its because of powerplay tehcnology why you have low clocks i also had the same readings but when running 3d apps it resumes back to original clocks..^^ its not a major issue at all..except for the 1st one

Well with the trouble I've been having I decided to RMA it to sapphire, and they actually waived the $15 RMA fee for some reason

. But i paid $11 for shipping. Figure it's better to be safe and get a replacement. Now i'm playing TF2 with my 3870 512mb Diamond. And Yeah I'm going nuts, No AA or Filtering. 1680x1050 blah.

$26 wasted for no reason.

If you read my past threads I've had more issues then just this. Cold Boots restarts artifacts in game, overheating. Lag spikes/jumps My guess is it had faulty ram.

And it was $11. They waived the $15 fee.
