I would recommend against the 4870, because it won't have the performance of the 4850 x2 or the 2 4850's you currently have.

As for the Processor, or the Video Card,
I'd say the processor. I'm not sure the 4850x2 would increase performance much, if at all.
Well actualy I dont have anymore two 4850's(after a faulty bios update, i am stuck just with one card). I have just updated my Profile.
About the CPU: will the AM3 sockets CPU really be faster then AM2+ ON a NON DDR3 MoBo?

Thanks for reply

uhh no the AM3 CPU would be faster on the the AM3 board since the AM3 board has faster ram.

like 2% faster, negligible and not worth the extra money

I think he's asking if the AM3 chip will be faster then an AM2+ chip even though it's used in an AM2+ socket. The answer is very very much yes.

I went from an AM2+ Phenom 1 8750 BE to this Phenom 2 720 BE, both on the same AM2+ board and it is a great difference!

Whether you install an AM3+ cpu on an AM3 board, or on an AM2+ board, it will operate at the same speed / performance level. The only real diff being is AM3 supports DDR3, and AM2+ does not. And, as it was pointed out, whether it's a combo of: AM3 cpu + DDR2, or AM3 cpu + DDR3, there's a minimal diff in performance. If you're looking for DDR3, Core i7 and triple-channel is the way to go.

both!....

i just made the move from a 9850BE and 2x 3870 to 940BE and 4850 x2 + 4850 trifire and couldnt be happier.

the 9950BE will bottleneck if it is not clocked 3.3+

vantage
just got mine today - trifire

3dmark 06

HUGE improvement over my 3870's

Thanks Guys. I just buy the Phenom II 940 for 230, and sold my old 9950 for 90. It's shipping now. So now it's the most difficult time... To wait
