4870X2 flickering...

Just got this card yesterday and I'm worried it might be faulty..

Everything seemd to be going fine when I installed the latest drivers (8.10). Then I realized there was a hotfix out, so assuming it was just that and nothing more I downloaded and installed them aswell.. Of course that was a driver also so the screen went blank and BSODed...

I started back up, deleted drivers and cleaned it up with driver cleaner. Then I reinstalled the hotfix drivers.

All seemed to be going well until I noticed that the desktop was flickering very slightly. I mean barely notable. Best way I can describe it is like a heat haze. It's most noticable on text. In fact I think this was happening before the driver mess up..

Then when I tried to play Far Cry 2 for the first time I noticed the flickering was still apparent. Turning on vSync in the menu actually stopped the flickering (in the far cry menu anyway). After that I tried starting a new game and it suddenly just crashed to desktop with no messages or anything.. Just to point out I don't have SP1 installed so I guess that could have caused it? The game did recommend it to be installed..

Can anyone tell me whats wrong with my card/drivers?? I'm really worried..

Thanks

if it only does it in one game....especially in FC2 then it's not faulty.....and don't worry...i can't even LAUNCH the game.....but my SLI rig plays it no problem.....
No I think you misunderstood. The flickering is apparent on the desktop aswell. As I said it's kind of a hazy effect.

By the way I forgot to mention it doesn't happend constantly. Stops and starts again.

Also I've just noticed something odd. ATI Overdrive displays a really low temperature (compared to what it was before the driver reinstall). 39C now compared to 49C before...

And the 'Activity' is always at 0... Wasn't like that before either..
i have the exact same flickering problem, both in FC2 and Crysis...i've just been assuming it's driver related...

interested to see what others have to say!

Well i'm glad I'm not the only one then. I'm reformatting now anyway... Had no choice it was pushing me to the brink (along with FC2 crashing before I could even start playing it)

Anyone know what could be causing the crash in FC2? Every time it starts loading a new game it crashes to desktop within a few seconds.. Familiar to anyone?
Anyone help me out (FC2)?
I actually managed to get into a new game. Looks like it didn't like me playing with the graphics settings in the menu before starting the game...

However the second I paused and tried to set AA to 4x the damn thing crashed back to desktop again! The other settings seemed to take effect fine!

This kind of brings the topic back onto my card again. There is obviously an issue with AA so is there anything I should be enabling/disabling in CCC?
Sorry for waffling again. Best not to make a new thread..

I think I just might have found the cause of my problem (flickering). I just noticed that I had had the X2 connected to my previous card's (nvidia) vga adapter instead of the adapter that came with the X2. I now have the ATI one connected and I'm waiting to see the results. So far it's been sitting in windows for over 20mins now and no flickering.

I think this may have solved the problem. What do you think? Can vga adapters really affect cards like this? If so do you think I could have caused any damage from using the wrong one?

Thanks guys I really could use your views on this.

no it should be just a plug... it wouldnt do anything the signals are all the same coming from nvidia cards and ati cards

personally i dont think adapters like that can go bad but who knows..... but if it solved your problem be happy. and no it can not damage your card

btw try the 2nd output if you havent already

The flickering is back... I can't believe it, I really thought I had solved it.

So you say the second input is worth trying? I might give that a go.
Try re-seating your card. I had a card one time that was not seated all the way in the pci-e and the screen kind of waved. That is the only thing I can think of right now.
