4890 Catalyst GPU clock??

Hey guys,

So im starting to get into overclocking my XFX 4890. When im in the Catalyst, I enabled the overdrive. The thing I see is, in current values at the bottom, it shows the current gpu clock value is 240MHz, yet my gpu clock is at 850MHz.
Ive also noticed that in ATI tray tools it shows BIOS gpu is 850 yet the current GPU is 240..
the Memory clock is fine and shows the current and overdrive clock is the same (975MHz).

Also, should i worry if my gpu is running at 43C with the fan turned up at 74%?
Its a brand new card and a brand new build i put together 2 days ago.

Heres a picture so you understand what Im saying. Can someone help me out about the best way of overclocking? (what benchmark, temps, etc.)

The 240 Clock speed is your cards energy saving feature when in 2D.

When under load it will increase to 850
Oh okay. Gotcha, makes sense. No need to have the clock speed that high when just running OS and internet. As far as testing an overlock for stability... Can I just play a graphics intensive game for a bit and check temps? or what? I used the furmark yesterday and the temps climbed high (mid 80s C) and continued to climb with stock settings, but only higher fan speed.
Gaming is the best way I find to check stability and temps. Run the Crysis Loop for a while which works for me.
I just ran furmark again with fan speed at 100% with that clock and the temps got to 70C perfectly stable at 200fps... so do i continue to increase the clock till i get to a certain temp or whats the best way to go about it?

I would not go by furmark, It heats your gpu / vrm's to a level that will never be reached while gaming or anything else besides furmark. I would say 85 Degrees was acceptable but they can take more than 100. I would use gaming as your guide. My 4890 at 950Mhz never went over 75 degrees at 70% fan playing Crysis for hours.

Another question... Can I use ATI tray tools to increase the voltage of the card to get a higher overclock? Because it has the option, but I didnt know if thatd work. Currently at 970HMz GPU clock and 965HMz memory clock... temps are average of 75 C Still running stable (fans 100%)

Not owned an ATI card in a little while but doesnt Catalyst have the option to go higher?

How you can take that fan going 100% I'll never know. That thing is like a turbine.
I dont see an option in Catalyst to increase voltage, if there is can someone please let me know where it is.
Its not too bad,yes its loud but I wont notice it when im playing a game.

By the way.. I found the max on the standard voltage gpu and memory clock 960ish. It locked up at 985, then lowered it to 970 and tried running Dirt 2 and it locked up. so I put it ot 960 and gonna try again.
But please if someone can tell me how to increase the voltage, thatd be wonderful!

Afterburner wont let me increase Vore voltage... only core/memory clock
From the site

Afterburner is powered by our own Rivatuner engine, but this software comes with a few extra's. AfterBurner will support both ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards, Voltage regulation on the GPU, overclocking on core, shader and memory domains, GPU load levels (ATI), fan speed adjustment, device information .. and a really wicked graphical (configurable) monitor.

So with combined forces MSI will bring you their new AfterBurner overclock software. AfterBurner, as in giving that airplane an extra boost of power. The end-result (we feel) is a great looking user-friendly overclocking experience, with on-the-fly advanced user options .. including something I know many of you will like, VRM voltage control.

Overclocking:

Up to 85% overclocking capability
Over voltage function to significantly increase overclocking potential
Core/Shader/Memory clock adjustment
Core/Shader clock Link/Unlink capability
Monitor:

Clock/Voltage/Temperature/Fan Speed/Frame rate real-time monitor
Maximum/Minimum value for easy record of system condition
Real-time On-Screen-Display information in games
Real-time information in Windows Tray Icon
Detach mode for hardcore monitor style

EDIT - Looks like it wont work on your card.

Yes it can, but it has it grayed out or like its disabled..
Weird. with the furmark i was able to have a higher overclock than in my games. I had to drop it down some. So i think increasing voltage will get a higher OC. can anyone assist me on how to do this?

Thanks for your help so far man
