It might need to be tinkered with, but yes it should recognize all 16 cores..

But the question remains...What would it fold like?
Windows Server 2008 is available free, and will recognize all cores.

It is? Care to share?

Also, I can tell you that 2 x AMD Opteron 6174 24*2.1ghz = 62.7kppd., this thread and this link may be useful to you to give you a vague idea.

Should crank out some reasonable numbers.

Oh wow...I'm not sure what your PPD would be, but I know someone who runs a cluster that does F @ H..parallel processing ftw! Link us with stats if you get this going

Well I would guess each K8 core will put out about 600-700 PPD w/o bonus points taking effect on A3 SMP folding.

So you're looking at 16 x 600 = 9600 PPD

For the power there's some better options out there.

Not quite sure about that.

@OP: You might want to shoot ablearcher a PM. He's soon getting a 4 X Opteron 8350 set-up, and he says that when he was checking with some other forums, he found that that particular set-up would be fetching 30-40K PPD on a single -bigadv client.

Since your 8356 is slightly clocked higher, you should be getting a bit more PPD than that.

Still, I have no proof, so you might want to ask him.

As I said; that's BEFORE bonuses.

Opeteron 8356 is a K8 based CPU on the Barcenlona core. It's almost 6 years old now.

Trust me; the PPD is not that high. Though; if the setup can do do -bigadv folding, that's a different set of PPD that I can't comment on.

But trust me; those CPU's are nothing fabulous.

I agree, nothing fabulous. Too bad that TYAN board doesn't support better CPU
K8 only, something to do with the HT link and server CPU being less forgiving.

Either way, I should of caught this thread sooner.

In Windows bigadv, you don't need nearly as much ram

I have server 2008 R2 installed from Dreamspark (I'm a teacher
), so I have enough to play around with... if only the rest of my ram sticks would arrive today, so I could even boot with more than 1 CPU installed

thanks for the images and and information ablechar, I will not be going ahead with this build idea :Z
I wish there were quad socket LGA 1366 options out...Some dual socket boards are nice, but they do not have much in the way of overclocking.
