What are you talking about? Dual socket has been out for years in servers. AMD is taking it mainstream, Intel isnt. simple as that really.

And how much watts is this going to take? It seems as if you'd have to have one heck of a PSU to handle this. So many more new things need more energy these days... *sigh*

Well the FX-74 is going to take 125w, and you need 2 of them for your 2x setup. Compared to the Kentsfield which eats ~80w.

Everybody pick up your 1Kw PC P&C's now <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Smile"><br><br>
Sheesh... intel aims to better energy consumption, while AMD and nVidia shoot for the moon! Environmentalists would have a cow at how much power an 8800GTX + FX74 4x4 system would suck down... my god

lol 4x4 isnt meant for energy conservation, thats what their 35W dual cores are for. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Smile">

Thats also downclocked speeds, thats sacrificing performance for power, AMD sacrificed no performance for power to get 35W. Im sure they could have gone lower if they decided to launch a 1ghz X2.

lol <img src="/images/smilies/tongue.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Stick Out Tongue" class="inlineimg" /> . Possibly, if they can prove they can outdo AMD when they put into effect Fusion, K8L, HT3.0, and all the other improvements we will be seeing in th next few years. Until then my money is still on AMD.<br />
<br />
not like I have any <img src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Frown" class="inlineimg" /> .

Intel made a good move with their Core architecture. <br />
<br />
In second half 2007 Yorkfield will appear, which should deliver also.<br />
<br />
I do expect AMD to strike back though, and competition should be fierce. I do think, however, that we have to wait for their Quad Core architecture to pull even or ahead of Intel
