5770 or 4890?

Well, I currently have a 9800GTX+ I got in October 2008, and it's starting to wear out it feels like, and starts to not run some of my games. 5770 looks cheap, and apparently beats the 4870x2 in this benchmark: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html. Is it worth getting? If I can get it, I'm getting it for Christmas.

I have a 22" Monitor, running all games at 1680x1050, and I'm getting another one 3 days after Christmas for my birthday. I won't be using it for gaming though.

Also, if I'm not doing RAID 0 or RAID 1, can I use 2 different branded harddrives together? A seagate one and a Western digital one?

5770's in crossfire may beat the 4870X2, but not a single one.

I'd get the 5770. Great card.

one 5770 won't beat a 4870x2 unless a game simply is not coded for multi-gpu systems in which case it would effectively be a 5770 vs a 4870 (and yes in most cases a 5770 is slightly faster than the 4870 it was intended to replace)

also a 4890 is noticeably faster than a 5770 in most cases.

depending on whether or not you want the latest tech (dx.11, eyefinity, etc.) you may choose the 5770. if that doesn't interest you so much as raw performance does, then the 4890 is your best bet. both are excellent buys though

In DX11, they added tesselation, right? Is it that much of a difference? What's new in DX11?

Also, what's Eyefinity? What does it do? It has something to do with hooking up multiple monitors, right?

yup you got it. tesselation is new among other things, and yeah eyefinity allows you to hook up to a crap-ton of monitors with a ridiculous resolution should you so choose

The 5770 for sure. The 4890 is a bit faster but doesn't have DX11, doesn't scale as well in crossfire, and uses a lot more power.

Also, eyefinity is a feature in the 5xxx series that allows you to hook up 3+ monitors to one GPU without the use of additional peripherals.

I'm only going to have 2 monitors ever in my lifetime, who needs 3?
So, I'm going to get the 4890 then. Should it support these specs?

E8400
500gb 7200RPM Seagate Drive (Possibly another one, see question below)
650w Antec PSU

Also, will a WD Drive work with a Seagate drive when I'm not doing any RAID stuff with them?

I only have one PCI-E 2 x16 slot, so crossfire isn't a problem.

4890 is a faster card, but 5770 has next gen features and much more OC'ing headroom. Even with heavy OC, 5770 consumes less power, is quieter, and runs cooler than 4890.

What's so great about the 5770? I could care less about DX11 or Eyefinity.

EDIT: Well, I guess I'm going with the 5770. The difference between the 4890 and 5770 is pretty much the memory bus width, 128 vs 256. Otherwise, they would probably have the same performance. Either way, an upgrade from a 9800GTX+ will probably make me happy.

hahaha both are good buys no worries. the 4890 is fast, but hot and sucks power, while the 5770 is newer and uses less power, but is slower. totally up to you

Tomshardware GPU charts - as you can see the 4890 does have better performance than the 5770, but the 5770 does have DX11 and use less power.

Put simply, if you want a better framerate and don't care about DX11 then get the 4890.

Strictly speaking, this should be in the Hard Drives and Storage section.
However, how do you mean 'will they work together'? Are you planning on using them as separate drives? i.e. Using a Seagate drive for your OS and the WD drive for storage?

4890 is faster, but....

The 5770 is about the same performance as a 4870 1GB. However there's always OCing potential, and the fact that the 5770 will run cooler, use less power, and it's DX11.

@ 1680x1050 a 5770 is more than enough, get it.
