5770 performs slower than GTX 8800???

I just swapped out my 2-year old GTX 8800 for a SAPPHIRE 5770. I ran the "Heaven" benchmark for Directx 11 and was surprised to see the score/FPS come out lower than what I got last week on my GTX 8800 on this same system.

This is the first time I've used an ATI card. I downloaded the driver from here for Windows 7 (64bit) and I am pretty sure it's the right one.

Could the problem be attributed to the relatively premature drivers for Windows 7? Although if the problem was related to the OS

Acutally, the 8800GTX does not have tesselation like the 5770 does, thus, since the 5770 is performing mroe calculations (because of the tesselation) it is going to be slower.

Press F2 (I may be wrong) to see wireframe then do I think F3 for tesselation on and off with your 5770. Bricks shall be shat.
What driver version are you using for the Sapphire 5770?

9.10 and 9.11 are terrible, try the 9.12 Beta (currently using, haven't had any problems yet).

The 8800 doesn't support DX11 so the test was likely ran in DX9 or 10. Whereas the 5770 was ran in DX11.
I'm in no way an Nvidia fan any longer but I'll admit when they make a damn good card. the 8800 GT came out back in 07' and it still easily holds up to today's games. I can't imagine what the GTX is like. The 5770 is an iffy card at best. most go for either the 4770s, 4870s, or 5800 series cards. But yeah I'd doublecheck the DX11/9/10 thing mentioned above. That might be the issue.

ATI ftw!

I'm using 9.11. Where do I get 9.12 beta? The link you provided requires an account for the download

As said dx10 =/= dx11. Run them both on a dx10 bench to actually compare the two cards.
Rerun the benchmark on your 5770 in DX10
No way should I have gotten a better score than you. Except maybe for the CPU, but I don't think so, cpu use never went about 17%.

An iffy card? How do you figure? From the benchmarks I've seen, the 5770 is comparable with the 4870 (which easily beats out the 8800GT), and that's on day-one drivers! Personally, I think it is a great middle ground for getting started with DX11 if you don't have $300 to drop on a video card.

Interesting..I did not know about tesselation. I disabled it and ran the test again, did much better this time around, but the tests can't really be compared at this point since the parameters between them has changed. Then again, I suppose the tests were the same to begin with since the 8800 does not support D11. At least this gives me a point of reference.

You could just run them both in dx10... It'll be a nice comparison between the two cards for most games that are out now.
Run them both in Dx10, the gtx doesnt even support any dx11 features. Not real fair results.
Run it at this setting and compare, I'd like to see what it is compared to my G92.

I just ran the test again on the 5770 in DX10. Compared to the 8800 the results are starting to make some sense.

5770 - DX10

8800 - DX10

You know what doesn't make sense in those two screens... look at what it says under "Render:" it shows the 8800 rendering in DX11. Am I missing something?

Other than this?

It applies to me. Better to recycle than start a new one!

I was actually thinking the same thing. Somethings not right there.

All it does is ignore the DX11 calss. It basically is running DX10 mode.

Like the times of old, DX10 and DX11 are kind of like DX8 and DX9, you could install DX9 on a DX8 card but it was still a DX8 card.
