Hello,

So I just got a GA-P55A-UD3 motherboard and was aware that due to the limitations of the P55 chipset, all graphics cards are forced to run at x8, down from x16 if a SATA3/USB3 device is present (in this case, my C300 SSD).

However, my Radeon 5850 runs at x4, not x8 which looks like a big hit and bottleneck. Is it just a software reading error? I've used 3 programs and they all report the same thing...

Anybody had similar issues? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that was going to be my guess as well..

have you installed Intel's latest update for your southbridge and northbridge? ive had this issue before and it was because there were no drivers present for the PCI-E bus lanes. also, are you running it in the 1st PCI-E slot? i know this sounds stupid but it may be the reason why if your running it in a slot other than the 1st slot (one closest the CPU)

The card is sitting on that one:

The BIOS and everything is up to date, including the intel chipset, but I'm not too sure about the southbridge and northbridge thing, perhaps those were also included the intel chipset update.

Hmm, I have tried turning off turbo mode/making the SATA3 SSD run at SATA2, but it still gives the same results. I could try updating my drivers again though.

Or perhaps it's just a reading error? All 3 programs are wrong?

Well can you monitor your FPS at all?

That would be a way to make sure that its a false reading, and that the 5850 is performing like it should.

The P55 chipset only has 16 PCI-E lanes. Therefore, with one card in a pci-e slot, it would be 16x, with two cards (crossfire or sli for example), it would be 8x8x. SATA 6GB and USB 3.0 take up 6 lanes in total (if enabled).

do you have a pci 1x sound card in any of the other slots?

Try upping your PCI-E speed in the bios, on my old P7P55D PRO, I had to run mine at 101 for PCI-E x16
