5970 - Which manufacturer?

So... I've been using NVIDIA since... forever. This new 5970 is looking pretty sexy though... Anyways, not knowing much about ATI I was wondering which manufacturer to get it from. Sapphire seems to be popular so I was thinking that but would like some opinions.

I prefer asus and xfx

XFX, because if you decide it's too much power for you, it has a transferable life time warranty people will like.

XFX with double lifetime warantty, and transferable warranty. ASUS is pretty good too.

Looks like the XFX 5970 Black Edition is the winner then. I'll be ordering it tomorrow!

I'd go ASUS but I can't find it on any Canadian sites. Nice pics btw, looks sweet.

Edit: Hmmm... it seems newegg.ca has it deactivated along with all the 5000 series cards. It's on newegg.com but there is no option to purchase it, only to notify me. It's not on NCIX US/Canada or TigerDirect US/Canada... So, I have no idea where to buy this thing.
XFX definitely has the best warranty, and since they are all currently the reference card you might as well go for the one with the best support
No love for Sapphire?
lol!!!!

Sapphire 5970 shipped with a bios that does not allow for fan control, so people have to flash it to fix the issue. Some users may not be comfortable with this.

I thought they all had that issue? People on OCN with other brands have been flashing their cards, please check the thread before posting misinformation

One thing to note, however, is that Sapphire were the ones with the fix. I created a ticket, got a reply in 6-8 minutes and a working fix the very next day with detailed instructions. To me that's good support.

Originally I wanted XFX, only for the lifetime warranty - since all cards are reference there's no other difference - but got Sapphire since it was available.

I've since read that XFX cheaped out on 4890 components resulting in a high failure rate - although the 5970s are still reference so this shouldn't be an issue (for now), it does illustrate their level of commitment to quality. I would rather have a quality card that doesn't break than a POS with wicked warranty. Who among those who can afford a 5970 has any patience for multiple RMAs? Who among those same folks will bee keeping the card beyond the 2 years that most other manufacturers warranty covers? Not me. I'll likely be on to a 6xxx or 7xxx or Nvidia equivalent.

Or we can use MSI's voltage tweak tool, which works with every reference card without checking the subvonder ID... lol

That's great, and good to know. Still, brands other than Sapphire shipped this way. Frankly we don't know that HIS didn't - it's entirely possible your card was shipped out after the fix. I really don't think these companies will continue to ship cards with a "fanless" bios til the end of time... more likely they flash with the new bios, yeah?
