6000+ to 720BE, how much of a performance gain

563 Views 10 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Bartmasta
I mainly game on my computer. Right now I do it on a resolution of 1280x1024 with the help of my trusty 9600GT. If I were to upgrade to the 720BE and overclock it to say, 3.5GHz, would I see decent increase in FPS? I'm planning to upgrade my 9600 GT in a year to a HIGH END card and I'm worried it would bottleneck the 720 BE.

Should be a pretty significant performance boost. And you should get alot more then just 3.5Ghz out of a 720BE
I can't tell you a quantitative increase in frame rates, but when I ungraded from my 5000+ at 3.2 GHz to my Phenom I 8750 at 2.9 GHz, I was blown away at how much smoother everything ran, from my desktop to my games, everything was better.

Edit: That is a long sentence.
The 720 BE runs neck and neck with the E8400 in tests. Think about it that way.
but how will it do in a year

Who knows where we will be in a year. Honestly wait to see what april 6th has in store. The New Phenom Quad cores are coming to the market so either price drops or better chips. 945 is the golden ticket but you should see a nice increase in frames upgrading.

and thats at STOCK.

the 720BE is almost guaranteed to do 3.4ghz, even on older amd chipsets and some NVIDIA chipsets.

Plus the K11s are about 20% faster clock for clock than the K8s (which is what the 6000+ is)

plus they run native 1066 Memory speeds while the 6000+ with the 15 miltiplier will only run 750mhz.

its a great upgrade for a great price, im getting one my self pretty darn soon.

In 3dmark05 with a 4400+ against the 720 at the exact same clock. it was 47.87% faster.

In super pi 1.5 with the exact same thing ^^, it was 30.22% faster.
