A 6800GT is definatly best. The main reason is that you can oc it to ULTRA standards easy. You cannot oc the X800PRO to X800XT standards however, as the PRO has less piplines than the XT, but the GT has everything but clockspeed basically the same as the ULTRA.
but i cant get a x800pro or GT. so now my question is 6800 plain or 9800XT? isnt the 6800 better image quality?
I say everybody in this forum pool our money and start our own Video Card company. We can make what we want and make a couple million dollars in our spare time.

Both are terrific cards. The 6800 will have the advantage in the newer games such as Doom 3. It has the 12 pipelines over the 8 for the 9800XT. But the 9800XT has 256MB RAM compared to 6800's 128MB. To play Doom 3 High Quality...it recommends 256MB RAM. So it's totally up to you...

I don't know much about the price between the two...maybe that will determine your pick

Your first post listed a GT as an option. It still is your best option, it is by far the best card for the money right now.

If you are truly limited to a 6800 vs. a 9800 XT, then the 6800 is the obvious choice. Even though it's stripped down, the 6800 is current generation technology. The 9800 is the previous generation.
