Just upgraded my [email protected] 4.4ghz to this 6900k @ 4.5HGZ. (got it for 350$ish). It' shouldn't be a bottleneck too much right? How viable e is it too a 10700k in todays world?

I got:
6900k @ 4.5GHZ 1.35v (under water)
1080 ti --> 3090 RTX
64 GB @ 3466 / 16,18,18,38
1000W PSU
MSI GODLIKE X99a

I don't like 3080 b/c it has 10GB ram and some games I have can use 11GB RS6 for example.

If you can buy a 3090 at msrp, I’d say go for it.

I just got an amd 5800x in this morning to replace a dead 6800k. I plan on testing it tonight and will let you know the results.

I can tell you that using a Xeon 4c/8t at 3.6 is 30% lower FPS than the 6800k with my 3090. The Xeon is about the performance of a 3770k.

If you are at 4k you won't tell a difference. Also really nice overclock on your broadwell chip. My 6950X topped out at 4.2.

Yes, i got a good chip. Stable for my needs no issue thus far. Im guessing its toward end of production... ushally results in better silicone, just picked it up cheap awhile ago...

I bought my x99 setup in 2016 and the 6900k was somewhere around $1000.

As for how it died, I'v actually had two 6800k's die now. The Asus x99 boards are notorious for randomly killing the cpu with a huge voltage spike out of nowhere. First chip lasted maybe 4 months, the second was 4 years. So it's quite unpredictable.

I just had an opportunity to run 3dmark. Keep in mind the 6800k was overclocked, and this 5800x is running at stock speeds (3.8Ghz all core). Also, the GPU didn't want to boost as high tonight. LINK

I'd say there's no bottleneck issue with the 6900k, especially with 4.5Ghz overclock. This is what a 3090 looked like when I introduced a real CPU bottleneck. LINK

Playing games over the last few days has shown me there is a pretty noticeable difference when using my 1440p 144Hz display. Before, there would be fps drops and that just doesn't happen anymore. I'm nearly locked at 144 FPS in Squad, with around 120fps at really demanding times. On the 6800k, I would have 60-75 FPS at really demanding times.

Also, I tried playing world of warcraft. Visiting the most populated city of the highest population server would bring me down to 60FPS on the 6800k. Now it's a steady 100FPS.

This has been such a large upgrade for the way it feels to game on, and not so much the max fps. The max fps is nearly identical, but the minimum fps has increased substantially. If you can get a 3090, it's still worth it. But I would look into upgrading CPU with the next generation if you don't want to upgrade now.
