I realize that this board will obviously be biased towards nvidia but I had to choose one of the two.

Anyone care to list some pros and cons of each?

Go for the 2gb 6950. It costs about 20 more dollars or so, and you get a much faster card that can unlock, which gives you 570 speeds, for 260-70 USD.

Here's a comparison of the two. Very close performance-wise.

Although I have to agree with anthrax. Bump for the 2 GB. You won't regret it (mine's in the mail!)

Edit: get the 2 GB reference version, though. The non-reference cards don't unlock to my knowledge.

Wouldn't that degrade the card more quickly?

No, unless you keep the card for 5-7 years. Plus you can unlock the shaders, over clock it, and keep the same ram timings(only thing the 6970 has different), by just getting one of the many bios. MSI has a 6950 that unlocks for 269 right now on newegg!
