Yes. Aliens.

Jkjk or am I?

Anyway I think for operational reasons.. No, but your personal sanity? IDK. Electronics that whine drive me crazy. My old PDA did it (tungsten T5)- well the screen anyway, but it got to the point that i didnt want to use it because of the whine.

It is normal, though I know some folders with nvidia cards sent them for RMA due to it being too loud.
I'd love to fold, but I've been dealing with so many system changes and reformats lately it's been getting out of control. I had three 470's but those were drawing far too much power.

Thanks for the responses thus far guys.

All high power cards have a chance of doing it - also it's coils that whine, not capacitors, and it doesn't necessarily mean they're operating below spec.

edit: I think the coils are all sealed on cards, but if they're not, a popular solution to fixing coil whine is to slap some hot glue or preferably high voltage putty around the coil to stop it vibrating.

It's nothing to worry about.

You can pretty much expect whining from GPUs these days.

not anymore since i switch to nvidia..
Guess this feels good for your fanboism ego?

GPU whine is not brand related. I've had a GTX 260 that whined like mad. You can RMA it and get a replacement, but personally I can't be bothered waiting several weeks for a new card.

GPU whine is not brand related. I've had a GTX 260 that whined like mad and a 560. You can RMA it and get a replacement, but personally I cba waiting several weeks for a new card.
