6XXX predictions?

11254 Views 61 Replies 43 Participants Last post by  Malus
My guess is that the 6XXX will not have a major boost in performance, but there will be a die shrink to lower power consumption and heat.

They will be released around August or September, and F3R/\\/\\1 will be released around June.

What are your predictions?

Agreed but Nvidia has a lot of time to make the perfect monster,My guess is it comes out around april with the 380 being slower than the 5970 by 25-20% and WILL have large availability upon release
I like your logic. I think Fermi will be forever mythical. Like the Loch Ness Monster, only few have seen it, but many speculate over it.

Duke Nukem Forever?

It will likely have a major performance boost as it will be based off a newer architecture rather than a modified RV770/RV870 architecture.

LOL....

@ op, 5xxx series just came out, don't you think it's a little to early to be speculating about a 6xxx series?

What is the deal with Duke Nukem?! Why the hell is that crappy game such a big deal,i'll never understand...
Die shrink to 32nm. 2400 shaders for high end.

1600shaders for the middle stream

I have information that I'm not allowed to reveal because I'm under NDA (and don't ask me to prove it because it's your loss if you refuse to believe me) that the HD6* series will make the engineer that made Fermi crap his pants.
then FERMI's engineers pay for the toilet paper when the 395 is introduced right?..c'mon

His quotes are amazing, considering what year the game was made

i think the GTX 380 will be around 10-15% slower then the 5970.]

Think there is maybe a 50/50 chance that ATI releases the 6000 series before NV has the dual GPU fermi out.

@OP

Why would you not think there would be a major boost in performance over the 5000 series? If Ati holds the same performance scale as their last 2 generations, the 6000 series will double the performance of the 5000 series. Just like the 5000 series double the 4000 series and so on.

The 6000 series, code named Northern Islands, is supposedly 32nm construction, following a similar release schedule of the 5000 series: September 2010 - February 2011.

I'd imagine ATI is anticipating Nvidia to drop a huge bomb somewhere down the road in 2010 because Nvidia has a lot to invest in making a better product than ATI. That being said, I have a feeling ATI will draw all of its resources into designing a card to destroy anything Nvidia can come up with during the next lineup because they are tired of competing and they want the high end GPU market. With the 1 gigabit GDDR5 becoming a reality only a few days ago thanks to Elpida, I think ATI will be the first to utilize it on their GPU's. Nvidia will of course follow, but as like right now, it will be months down the road and by the time they get a card onto the market, they will have already lost a lot of customers.

The next gen ATI cards should absolutely see a huge performance increase. I would say 3200 stream processors, 32nm, and slightly higher core and memory clocks, but given the potential 1 gigabit GDDR5, it will run incredibly. They set the bar extremely high this time around, so they have to keep setting it higher if they want to take Nvidia's spot as the best.

Oh, and ATI Eyefinity will support 12 monitors
