I'm going to be purchasing my GPU soon and have narrowed it down to two choices, the 7600GT and 6800GS. I've heard that the 7600GT outperforms the 6800GS by a few fps. But, I'm a little skeptical though since the 7600GT only has a 128-bit memory interface and no external power source. What do you guys think is the better deal?

i wouldnt fell scared because it is the newer version of the 6600gt and kills it in all tests by over 40% im sure and is better than a 6800gs and gt in some cases when overclocked it will be it no bother there are lots of reviews on the 2 cards so def go for the 7600gt i plan on getting one not uless i have enough for a 7900gt
i hope lol

has to be the 7600, its newer and much better, out performs the 6800GS

but if you can afford it, go for a 7800GT or a 7900GT, they will out perform the 7600GT

Sounds good. I thought the 7800GT was going to be discontinued? If it is, then I'll probably just scrape up an extra hundred and go with the 7900GT instead of the 7600GT. Lets just hope I don't get impatient. =D

Uhhh, the 7800GT and 7900GT cost the same, so it doesn't make sense to get 7800. But if you're cheap like me, than get the 7600, as it has higher clocks if I remember correctly.

I was comparing the price of the 7600GT to the 7900GT.
I might just get the 7600, but if I have enough money I'll go with the 7900.

Ok. 6800GS at 485/1100 is approx a 6800Ultra, at 425/1000 its a 6800GT. The 7600GT has even more speed and the same amount of pipes and shaders. So then, why wouldnt it be? There.

Yea, some of the stuff I'm still deciding on. I still need to get my CPU, GPU, and memory, so my signature might change. Basically it's what I plan on getting, sorry for the confusion.

Don't you all think that it being 128bit may prove to have some limitations on high end games with high settings? Who cares what the 3dmark score is, will it function as good as a 6800GS with AA's enabled?

I agree with Jori, newwer tech in the 7600GT than in the 6800GS, plus it uses 1.4ns Samsung GDDR3 memory, so it will OC much better than the 6800GS
The GS is a great card, but falls short in a few areas that the 7600GT excels

Seriously.......save up $80 and get the 7900gt when it gets back in stock.......it will double performance.

OR consider this........

6800gs (factory OC) is on par with the 7600gt......and the GS is cheaper. You do the math.

Does anyone have any links to benchmarks comparing the 7600GT to other video cards out there?

A higher clock speed does not mean it will necessarilly have better performance. If that logic were true the 7600GT with 560MHz clock speed would outperform the 7900GT with 450MHz clock speed. Respectively, until I see some benchmarks, not just stat analysis about the card, I am unsold.

I have no doubt it will be a great card, but will it be better then the 6800GS or the 6800Ultra?
