Check your manual for the motherboad. My ASUS has the same set up, and here's what the manual said. You can use a 8 pin if your PSU has one, otherwise, just plug in your 4 pin to one side of the connector. (If you look at the schematic in the manual for the plug, the bottom 4 pins are all grounds and the top 4 are all 12v, they are the same)

Now, mine came with a plastic cover over one half of the plug, so it was easy to figure out which side to put it in. If yours doesn't have that cover, hopefully your manual will tell you which one to use......or it's possible it doesn't matter.

Yeah, I wouldn't really recomend forcing plugs.........

It's not really cutting the power in half, just changing the way power is distributed. And mostly it's to simply allow those people with the PSUs with the 8 pin to use the board......unfortunatly, the ASUS website appears to be going wonky, so I can't provide a link to the manual for my board to show you exactly what it says.

Like I said, check your manual, that is the final word. If it says different, than go with it.......but I can assure you that my system is quite stable with all power reading solidly in the green.......
