8 Pin in 6 Slot.

Am i able to plug 2 8 pin plugs into a 6 pin slot? IE 8800GTX. If so would it be safe to run 3 x 8800GTX'es off of 2 wires each having 2 x 6 pin and 1 x 8 pin in the 2?

Will your 8-pin PCIe plug fit into a 6-pin PCIe port? Or do you have a 6+2 PCIe plug?

6-pin PCIe is rated for 75w while 8-pin PCIe is rated for 150w. A 8800GTX is rated for around 180w. Would you elaborate on what you want to do?

Sure, on 1 complete Wire Strand 6pin(PCIexpress)8pin(PCIexpress)6pin(PCIexpress) and in that order, so on two strands i will have enough to run all 3 GTX'es in a clean matter, even if i have to mod the plug no problem as long as it wont hurt the card.

I wouldn't have all three plugs on one line. In theory, the maximum draw it will need to support is 300w or 25A.

I would off load at least a 6-pin PCIe plug to one of your other lines.

Also, does your PSU have multiple rails? If so, you need to be sure not to trip the Over Current Protection on the rail.

my 8pin PCIe power plugs have two pins that are "flappy" so I can put them to the side to fit in my HD4870 that requires two 6-pin PCIe power connections.. works fine here.. I'd say if your 8pin plug have the "flappy" thing it should work fine, otherwise you MIGHT have fitment issues at the most.

Thats what i was thinking 3 cards is 2 much for just 2 strands.

I dont have a flappy
Moding the plug would work but probably overload with 3 cards in 2 strands lol.

It should work on just one line because you won't be drawing the full 300w. However, it will probably trip OCP if your PSU is multi-rail.

hmm, thought this was the nerd version of 2 girls 1 cup
It has 6 +12 rails, i have had this PSU for 1 1/2 years and it has never flinched, its probably one of the best i have ever used. I don't how ever want to take the chance
