I currently have a 7870xt and will be looking to upgrade some time this year, is there a release date for the nvidia 800 series?

There is no official release date yet.

And we have yet to see any information leaks so it appears the cards aren't being built yet.

Based on what Nvidia has stated, I'd say fall of this year is probably realistic.
