8800gt folding in a dell

Hi all, well I just got my gtx260 which Im folding on in my current rig. I have a dell dimension 8400 as a spare comp, and the 8800gt I replaced. I wanted to set the 8800 up in the dell to fold on.

Thing is I dont trust the power supply in the dell to power the system and the overclocked 8800 folding. I do have a spare 350watt power supply I was going to use to power the 8800.

My question is, I will have to hot wire the psu. So would I switch this psu on before or after the computer is switched on?

I usually power on the jumped PSU before the computer.

So this wont harm the 8800 in any way getting external power first then the power from the pci-e slot?
When I did this for my 4870 X2 to test it, i switched on the main PSU then the hotwired PSU a fraction of a second later!
So if you time it real close there shouldn't be a problem in my experience, though I don't know what to say if you are going to have a decent gap of time...

Well unfortunately the powersupply Ill be using for the 8800 dosnt have a switch on the unit itself, so it will be turned on as soon as I connect the jumper. So basically as fast as I can do that.

Or do you think the dell psu of 350watt will power the 8800gt overclocked folding 24/7?

Edit, guess Ill try and see, wouldve thought Id get help for the cure. Hopefully I wont fry my 8800gt.

What about if you ran a wire from the green and black wire on the 20 pin connected to the mobo to the green and black connected to the 20 pin on the other PSU. That should activate both at the same time. Think that would work anyway.

The dell 350watt PSU should be fine. I have an 8800gs overclocked and running 24/7 in my dell at work. Haven't had a problem in the 2 months I have been using it. Was running a 8800gts 3 months before the 8800gs.

some Dell PSU's are decent for OEM.
Just keep an eye on it.
Very nice congratulations!
350watt should not be enough for it...

If you do jump it, make sure you've got something else on the jumped PSU. The GPU will use the 12v rail, but the 5v will still be putting out - It needs to be consumed, at least a HDD or something.
