8800GT into Quadro

Hi.

Im trying to softmod my 8800GT into a Quadro, as my dad needs a GPU for CAD and such. So far I have found out that my RivaTuner has no NVStrap tab, so I cant do it through there. Although I have found some information considering bios modding to make this card a Quadro.

Though Im a little worried cause my card isnt actually a reference one, its a Gigabyte. So Im going to post a few pics and I hope that people could help me out with this.

Thank you

Edit: Using 195.62 drivers, 2.24c Rivatuner and W7 64bit edition...

Edit2: And some links: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=17995195 and http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lof...p/t134631.html

I came across this OCN Howto for bios flashing Nvidia cards when I was looking to flash my 8800GT to a SSC version. Maybe it could be of some help. http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/1498...-flashing.html

Techpowerup has a fairly wide selection of VGA bios's available for download. Likely you'll find the appropriate quadro bios in their archives. http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/

Good luck!

you won't be able to turn it into a quadro because it is an 8800GT and uses the G92 chip. you could flash the bios to a higher voltage and overclock it or you could do a hardware volt mod of the VGPU and overclock it to around 900/2200/1200 if you are lucky and have excellent cooling. The extra 400+mhz of shaders should help with CUDA but an 8800GT isn't going to be as efficient as a top of the line quaddro card, no enough shaders

also you stopped being able to unlock extra shaders and stuff after the 6*** o 7*** nvidia series that probably explains the nvstrap
OK. So I made a bootable USB stick and tried flashing it into FX3700. As mentioned: didnt work.. Any advices on the Rivatuners NVStrapper tab thingie?

+Rep to Interpolation, never managed to make a bootable USB stick until now

And this is where I got it from:

I have seen this done in a past issue of Maximum PC as well so I am sure it can be done with a little modification to the drivers. Good luck!
Thank you but those links are already posted here

That would be great thank you
Right now Im just wondering why the NVStrapper tab is missing because there are people who have 8800GT and managed to convert it into FX3700 with Rivatuner... Ahh, so frustrating.

you won't be able to do anything with Nvstrap, just reflash the bios

the last nvidia cards you could unlock pixel pipelines and shaders were the nvidia 6800 series, since then they stopped locking certain parts of the card with software.. i.e. you cna no longer unlock stuff with rivatuner

good luck bios flashing is generally pretty easy, from what I read this give you a little boost in how it renders CAD

This is not about unlocking parts. This about making the drivers think I have a FX3700 when I could install Quadro drivers. The drivers make the difference here I think..

LOL. I got it now. I missed the part when I was told to use -4 -5 -6 parameters when using NVFlash. Downloading the drivers now...
Rivatuner has known issues with 64 bit versions of Vista, and therefore I assume windows 7. rivatuner64.sys is classified by windows as an 'unsigned driver' therefore you must boot windows with driver signing disabled or use Rivatuner on a 32 bit version of windows to get it to work properly.

I assume rivatuner64.sys is a a driver that supports to low level hardware / nvstrap that is necessary for this mod. Sorry about the confusion before. i don't get this option in vista 64 with my 8800gt, ill install riva tuner on my dual boot xp 32bit to verify. hope this helps

edit: I can't test now actually because im converting/burning an mkv files, it'll be around an hour before I can see

I tried it on my 32bit XP just a moment ago. Didnt work.

not sure what to say, did you enable low level hardware monitoring and any other features required to do overclocking and system monitoring?

okay I found the issue it was CPU magazine:

http://www.computerpoweruser.com/edi...6ABC7332212DFC

But I read in the magazine that if the NVStrap is not available in Riva then your Geforce is not supported by riva or it cant be soft modded into a quadro. so I cant say for certainty but I believe the Doc was right.

I have the device strings for the G92's that can be soft modded to various quadros:
DEV_0619.1 = quadro 4700 X2
DEV_061A.1 = quadro 3700
DEV_061B.1 = quadro 200
DEV_061C.1 = quadro 3600M
Tuxi: having a bit troubles
Tuxi: my 8800GT is factory ocd
Tuxi: and it needs a bit voltage bump to accomplish those clocks
Tuxi: and I dont know how I could change volts for the new bios
Tuxi: so I would have to lower clocks

in win 7 you run the install.exe as admin and it don't require sign drivers that way.. works when installing anything. right click, run as admin, install..
