Damn thats a well pretty ugly piece of work... Im pretty disappointed with the 8800 altogether. Beating the X1950XTX with 40% means that a X1950XTX in Crossfire will be as fast as a single 8800. Not that kind of a huge improvement if you ask me for a "Nextgen" card.
Now this ugly cooler haha ill wait for 2nd gen

im waiting for ati's next gen before i buy anything, i dont even see a purpose in getting rid of either my gtx's or my gx2 before then, by the way anyone remember when ati's r600 is coming out

Well doesn't it have to emulate our current benchmarks since they are in DX9? I thought they ran only DX10 and had to emulate DX9 which could be the reason of it not blowing everything out of the water until a DX10 benchmark is out there.

Good thing a computer part's speed isn't affected by the way it looks. If you want looks go buy a Honda and put some stickers on it. Seriously...give me a freakin break...I won't buy this because it looks bad? I've heard it all

If you're referring to the 8800GTX then it is DX9 compatible (no emulation needed) and it DOES blow everything out of the water

Looks just like all stock heatsinks, just bigger. Why are you all saying it is ugly? It gets the job done.

First off, THATS THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HEATSINK! The underside ALWAYS looks ugly! I'm sure the TOP that you ACTUALY SEE looks amazingly cool

Secondly, you are saying because its ONLY twice as fast as the fastest video card EVER MADE it sucks... What did you want it to do, make you breakfest?

Even if it is the underside of the cooler it's still pretty ugly

Picture of the top of the cooler of a Leadtek 8800GTX

It performs as good as 2 x1950xtx's while consuming as much power (13w more to be "exact") as a single x1900xtx and you somehow find that disappointing, Juggernaut?

If people actually thought that was how the heatsink looked from the front.. WOW...

Thats alot of crappy thermal paste...No wonder they are going to run hot.. They should start putting AC5 on everything...

Its a huge package, but yeah the die is probably also quite large. I'm sure much of that package size is the large pinout.

BTW - whats all this "ugly" business?? If you take the panels off your car, is it going to look pretty? Its got the heat-sink off for crying out loud.

Also - regarding "only" 40% increase in performance with even less power - yeah, those nvidia engineers should just quit and find some other line of work

I wouldn't even know how much to use, probably a little more than for a CPU IHS.
