Was going to order a 955 processor from newegg for $165, but might go with a 965 instead.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727

Is that the rev 3? The new one? It says 125w so i'd imagine it is?

I was gonna go with the 955, but didn't wanna get stuck with a rev 2.. But newegg has the 965 both 140 and 125w separate, so I guess that means the 125w HAS to be the new chip?

Also how much does it matter the 955 vs 965 for overclocking? I'm going to liquid cool.. Is the 965 any better or is it exactly the same overclocked?

the new 965 c3 as you refer to as "rev 3" is the 125w and yes should be able to overclock the c3's 4.0+, 4.1+ ghz

The c2 965 and 955 are essentially the same chip but with different factory clocks. Those overclock to about the same. They usually hit a wall around around 3.8-4.0ghz

Again luck is going to be a factor in overclocking these chips. You never know for sure

this thread should help you out.

C2 revisions of the 965 are 140W whereas C3 revisions are 125W.

kk thanks for the help, going with the 965 125w then

Gonna cool with 1/2" liquid setup, if I can't break 4ghz with that I'll hook my old chiller back up! lol.. Hoping I get a good chip and can get some good numbers. Would like 4.2+ stable
