Budget gaming setup, trying to make a nice pc with quality components.. Planning on liquid cooling eventually and pushing it hard, but can't afford new water blocks at the moment (have the rest of my liquid setup).

$660 shipped, still gotta buy a case. Will I need a full tower for a setup like this or would a mid tower get me by? I don't have many drives, but I will have 1/2" water cooling.

Just looked and with a combo deal on the processor I could get the motherboard brand new, except change out that memory for ocz obsidian 4gb 1600 memory... And save $20 plus get a $30 MIR..

But would I be better of with the 2000 memory? Or is 1600 fine for overclocking? I definitely wanna push it..
i think 1600 memory would be better - i don't know if most boards would be able to handle 2000.

either way, you win when it comes to price/performance. epic parts

except, i'd change the mobo. MSI...
memory limit for any phenom II is 1860mhz 2000mhz is useless unless you can get it to do tighter timings at 1800mhz

damn and that's the chip that has the best timings for the price by FAR

what about ditching them for this

Well went ahead and forwarded the list to santa...

Went with the corsair memory.. Also added in a 1.5Tb seagate drive for $99, and a $36 mid tower to hold me over tell I spend $100+ on a full tower.

total is $760ish plus shipping on a couple items, mostly free shipping

you might want to avoid those 1.65 volts modules they're geared for I7 and anything like doesn't play well amd usually.

Can you elaborate? I have seen a few people say this but they never state why Ripjaws are bad with AM3. The only thing I can find from google is people saying that their AM3 boards use the wrong memory settings by default with Ripjaws but that seems to be more of an inconvenience than a problem.

If that is the case I have no problems tinkering with ram timings

Been building all my own pc's since I was 12, 22 now. Been playing with memory timings on my current rig since about 4-5 years ago, as well as water cooling 5-6 years. Definitely not worried to tinker and test tinker and test!

But I also did read some reviews about the rip jaws not always hitting rated timings good. Not sure if that's true or user problems or what.

Are you sure about that? I was just reading somewhere about the I7's and how they can't go above 1.65v safely at all, or something like that...... And that amd's aren't limited as much regarding memory voltage since there memory controller isn't on the processor??
i could be backwords...

I'd say you got an awesome kit! Just be sure to test out those OCZ's, lot's of dead dimms appearantly in the reviews. I was looking at that kit myself, but ended up buying a cheaper mobo and different memory for my christmas kit
I'd not try going for the MSI unless you really want the 2x 16 lane crossfire. If your not crossfiring some high end cards, then I'd find a nice 790X mobo instead, maybe a GX.
